Charity auction of lost property

A surfboard, Barry Manilow LPs and a set of crutches are among items for sale in an auction of lost property.

The items have all been left on the Tyne and Wear Metro system this year.

In the past, property recovered has included a false leg, several wigs, a stuffed dog - named Day Rover by Metro staff - and even a kitchen sink.

More than 1,000 lots will go under the hammer at Haymarket Metro station on Wednesday, with proceeds going to the Newcastle Society for Blind People

This year's items for sale include Barry Manilow, Shakin Stevens and Kenny Rogers LPs, jugs, videos and DVDs.

Nexus communications director Andy Bairstow said: "The thing that amazes us is that people leave the items but then make very little attempt to get them back."

Lord Mayor of Newcastle, Councillor David Slesenger is auctioning the first few lots to the public.
