Parker gets a capital offer

ARSENAL manager Arsene Wenger is ready to offer Newcastle skipper Scott Parker a return to London - by packing Gilberto Silva off in the other direction.

Parker has had a torrid time of it of late on Tyneside, with Toon fans jeering him to such an extent that boss Glenn Roeder has had to publicly ask them to lay off.

And Brazil star Gilberto would be interested in a move north, because Arsenal are only willing to offer him a one-year extension to his current deal as part of Wenger's over-30s policy.

Roeder, on the other hand, would stump up a three-year contract for the 30-year-old World Cup-winner.

Londoner Parker joined Newcastle in 2005 in a £6.5million summer switch after failing to establish himself at Stamford Bridge following his dream move from Charlton to Chelsea.

His tough-tackling displays soon won him a place in the Toon fans' hearts, but recently they have begun to accuse him of not trying.

And Wenger would be willing to part with around £8million - which would include Gilberto - to sign the England international.

- Newcastle boss Roeder is keen on Melbourne Victory striker Adrian Leijer, skipper of Australia Under-21s.

Leijer is a central defender, not a striker, and not near Premiership standard...come to think of it, neither is the rest of our defence

I wish ScotMag would post the links for his stories

At the end of the day, one of the following must be true:

-this story is made up

-Arsene sees something in Parker's current play that we don't

-Arsene thinks Parker is not being best used by NUFC

-Arsene thinks Parker has had enough of NUFC

-Arsene can't judge a player

But Archie could possibly do the job, if Hiddink was manager.

What's the source? Because it sounds like a right load of patter.

I think it was mentioned in The People, although that might have been copied/ripped/adjusted from this as I'm sure the lad who told me said it would be a straight swap.

Would love to see both of them at Newcastle, Hiddink would probably fuck off after a year for more money anyway, can guarantee Freddy would have been sucked into some condition in the contract

First of all Hiddink would have to prove his Gran was from Byker otherwise he'd not get anywhere near the job.
