ewerk 31587
Does Owen speak much to the local press? We don't really know if he gives a fuck about Newcastle but an odd PR interview wouldn't go amiss so we know he's still there.
Gemmill 47051
Uh-oh, here's Renton! He's never been a big one for talking to the press, so I'm not that shocked about him not talking to the Chronicles. Besides you know a lot of the reaction would be "Yeah yeah whatever, wish he'd just shut up and concentrate on getting fit again instead of talking to the press. Does anyone believe him anyway blah blah."
ewerk 31587
He's done plenty of national interviews though they are often in connection with his sponsors but everyone always complains that they concentrate on England. It wouldn't kill him to do one decent interview for the local paper of the club that's paying him over £100k pw.
Gemmill 47051
Probably doesn't want his face and words being used as toilet paper by the likes of Renton.
Baggio 0
Owen does interviews with Newcastle World quite often tbh.

Renton 22400
So to summarize, here's what I take from this sorry affair: 1) Owen only really cares about England, nothing new there though. 2) There are fundamental problems on how clubs should be compensated for injuries caused on international duty that have to be addressed in the future. 3) Shepherd is an embarassing PR disaster. Nothing new there either. 4) Sounds like he has fallen out with Owen, or will soon. I expect Owen to be gone by August, and us to lose a fortune over the deal. Guest alex
Don't know how you can get 1) from all this. Just showing your bias imo.
Renton 22400
It's my impression that's all he's really focussed on, playing for England. For instance, an easy way out of the current predicament would for be for him to say to McClaren, "know thanks boss, I'd better get some club games under my belt first". That would ease a lot of tension, but I doubt he'll be willing to do it. Put it another way then, do you guys really think he has the same comittment for us as the national side? He just wants to play football after being out for an entire season. There are no club games during the summer months so it stands to reason that he'll want to play for England instead. If he's fit enough to turn out in the Premiership before the end of the season, why should he wait until August to play again just because you and Shepherd want to see him play some club games first? I mean really, what is the point in that? I think Owen is probably prouder playing for England than for Newcastle. But I'm fine with that - we're not going to change that about him, and I don't have any real need for him to fall in love with the club or the region. I just want him to o his job professionally, and to play and score goals for us - I think those are all things that you can take for granted with him. No. I don't think that' the same as saying England is all he cares about. I share some of your concerns about him but I think (as I've said before) he's a model pro and a top class player. He's done a few, dunno about exclusively for local papers, but tbh there's not an awful lot he can say other than "I'm trying hard to get fit and the injury is healing well/not well" really. For more general stuff I don't think anyone believes (and I'm sure he'd admit) that it is his dream to play for Newcastle (I think Shearer probably had a lot to do with him coming, along with lack of other options)... but on the other hand Owen is professional and sensible enough to put in performances even if this isn't he ideal club.
