Web revellers wreck family home

About 200 youngsters caused damage put at £20,000 to a family home after a party organised on a website.

Police said a teenage girl used the social networking site MySpace to advertise the bash while her parents were away from home on Easter Monday.

A spokesman said some people travelled hundreds of miles to the house in Houghton-le-Spring, County Durham.

It is alleged guests urinated on a wedding dress, stole jewellery and swung from light fittings.

Party-goers are also said to have stubbed out cigarettes on the carpet, vomited throughout the house and barricaded the back door to prevent neighbours from intervening.

'Out of control'

The sixth-former's parents returned on Tuesday morning to find the trail of destruction at their £230,000 house in Chipchase Court in Woodstone.

They have now moved out of the house to have it professionally cleaned.

A Durham Police spokesman said: "The girl's parents were away, she invited people around and it spiralled out of her control.

"It was a private house party and we've been told it was advertised on MySpace.

"We had a large number of complaints from neighbours and at various points we had to intervene."

He said no arrests were made on the night, but police were attempting to trace all the party-goers as part of an investigation into allegations of criminal damage.

Aye, saw it on the news last night, and it seemed like the dad mustn't have wanted them to come into the house. Just stood at the door going "I hope no one ever has to go through something like this. My house is trashed." He only sort of added ".....aye, get in touch with the police" as a message to his daughter as an afterthought. Livid.

Someone text in the radio this morning saying that to cause £30k worth of damage in Houghton they'd basically have to burn the whole town down.
