Gejon 2
Could it be that he's coming in as a back up? with Bernard as good as out and Babayaro doing fuck all to deserve his big wages, could it be that Bulut could come in as back up to a better, first choice left back? Whatever happens we're going to need to left backs and Babayaro's wages are (reportedly) too high for a second choice in that position. Why are we buying a back up left back though? We need someone who can play in the position ahead of Babyaro, not as cover for him. His point, I believe, was that maybe we're getting rid of Babayaro, and so need someone to replace him as second-choice. A free transfer is therefore reasonable. Well maybe, but buying the reserve player first is a very backward way of doing things. If he is available and being offered to us we may aswell get it done asap then have more time in the summer to find a first choice lb. If he is good enougn of course. He's being kept out of the team by Didier sodding Domi for crying out loud! Of course he won't be good enough.
Scottish Mag 3
Newcastle boss Glenn Roeder has decided not to follow up his interest in Turkish defender Erol Bulut. The Olympiakos defender travelled over to Tyneside last week and was put through his paces by Roeder's coaching staff. Roeder is eager to revamp his defence and handed a trial to a player who will be available on a free transfer. The Turk felt he had made a decent impression during his trial, but Roeder has revealed he will not be taking his interest further. "The lad has already gone back home and we will not be signing him," Roeder told the Evening Chronicle.
