Actually is there a chance this could just be the PR department at the club trying to create what they think is some good news around the area, at a time when the club is getting some amount of stick off both the media and the supporters?

Totally agree. Let's just divert attention away from what the FOOTBALL club is actually about.

To be honest I think the 60,000 thing is a bit of a decoy to the rest which is more about lining shareholder pockets than anything to do with football.

Shepherd taking his eye off what's important at an absolutely crucial time. Fabulous. Leazes can add conference centre/hotel/8000 empty seats to training facilities as one of Shepherd's greatest achievements.

So this is now looking a distinct possibility???? How bloody stupid does the East Stand look???

On a related note, I can't imagine too many people are going to want to buy a 'luxury apartment' which is bolted onto a football stadium. Can you imagine the noise levels on match days???? :o

Shepherd, you stupid twat, you have just announced this on Friday and do you SERIOUSLY think you can address this decline after what we have been watching this season?

The average attendance for home FA Premier League games was 49,725 resulting in an occupancy rate of 95%. (The first part of the 2005/6 season saw an average attendance of 52,112 and occupancy rate of 99%).

Looks better than it does now, and not too dissimilar to Celtic Park but on a larger scale.

I disagree Greg.......it looks fucking stupid to me :o

It looks stupid now from that elevation though. It looks fine from the ground though, which is the usual place to see it!

Not that it matters any more cos we don't need the added capacity anyway, but they should've relocated the Leazes Terrace-just stripped away the facade of the buildings and put them up again elsewhere. Theres nee preservation wants doing on the inside as the ornate architecture doesnt carry on inside-the building is just a shell in that sense.

So is there no chance of getting the buildings behind the East Stand delisted or whatever the term is?

Only realistic chance of getting a building de-listed is if it was needing to be condemned and demolished on the grounds of safety. No chance with Leazes Terrace as it's well maintained.

Even then I think they have to consider retaining the outer face of the building and whatever is built in its place needs to have it encorporated within it.

Only realistic option is to create either a floating tier or somehow design an expansion to the stand which encorporates the existing building in it whilst keeping the planning dept happy.

The first option is stupidly expensive, the second, nigh on impossible. Personally I think they went overboard with L7 developments. They'd have been far better to design an expansion for all 4 sides of the ground to get the capacity to 60,000. Instead, they're doing it by only expanding 3 sides.

I don't think Leazes Terrace should be demolished or moved anyway. Not that we need the extra seats.
