Transfer deadline day saw the public unveiling of Michael Owen but there was still a bit more movement ahead of the midnight deadline.

The return of Nolberto Solano to Tyneside could be back on despite Freddy Shepherd stating that the deal was dead.

Aston Villa apparently wanted £1.5m and James Milner on a season long loan which was a price we weren't willing to pay and according to the Chairman that was the end of the matter.

However, we hear unconfirmed reports that Solano is on his way now to Tyneside for a medical.

David O'Leary seemed to be resigned to losing Solano and was quoted in the Birmingham Evening Mail as follows:

"I won't let him go to Newcastle unless we get our money back, or a player on loan. He would love to go to Newcastle. The problem we then have is that if we stop him, does he then go into a sulk? That's the way of it with players today.

"He sees what Newcastle are doing with Michael Owen and the size of the club and he wants to be a part of that. He says he wants to go to a 'bigger' club."

Remember we were after Trabelsi, did he ever move clubs or not? Hard to make a song out of his name though!

nobbys coming home!

Aston Villa winger Nolberto Solano's return to Newcastle United now looks to be back on.

The Peruvian was linked with a move to St James' Park, providing Villa were given James Milner on loan in exchange.

Earlier on Wednesday, Magpies chairman Freddy Shepherd dismissed any notion of a deal being done.

But it now appears Shepherd has had a change of heart and is trying to push through Solano's return to Tyneside before the transfer deadline.

Solano originally left the club for Villa 18 months ago and was linked with a switch to Liverpool earlier this month.

Villa boss David O'Leary scotched any chance of Solano joining the European champions and was adamant the wide man was staying at the club.

O'Leary, though, appears to have been tempted into letting Solano rejoin Newcastle on the proviso he gets Milner.

The Villa boss worked with the England Under-21 international at Leeds United and Milner is understood to be in the Midlands to finalise his switch.

I'm hearing it's not Milner and could be Faye or that it is a straight cash fee. Doubt Solano would travel all the way up here pending on Milner making a decision just can't see it.
