khay 10
Roeder pinning his hopes on Butt Uefa Cup last 16, second leg Date: Thursday 15 March Kick off: 1935 GMT Venue: DSB Stadium Coverage on BBC Radio Five Live and the BBC Sport website Glenn Roeder believes Nicky Butt holds the key to Newcastle's Uefa Cup progress when they meet AZ Alkmaar in Thursday's round of 16 second leg tie. Newcastle are 4-2 up from the first match at St James' Park and Roeder feels Butt can help finish the job. He said: "We need Nicky to bring all his European experience - I am looking for another big game from him. "The crux of the game is for us to gain control in midfield through Nicky Butt and Scott Parker." Roeder added: "To be fair, they did for the majority of the game at St James' Park last Thursday night. "We have got to stay tight and compact and make it hard for AZ to play through us." But the Magpies boss also expects his other players to be up to the task - and he knows they have to be. "It is not just Nicky Butt. We have a lot of experienced players at both international and club level in our squad in the likes of Damien Duff, Shay Given, Scott Parker, Oba Martins and Kieron Dyer. "We know that we must not carry any passengers and hopefully we will not. "As things stand before the game, we do not have to score - and hopefully in the course of the game, we will not have to." sweetleftpeg 0
No pressure then Nicky. Btw, how depressing is that last line.
Bombadil 0
I liked this one: "We don't fear anything," Roeder added. "I don't see that there is anything to fear. It's a useless emotion - I don't see why human beings suffer from it. How philosophical! It is going to be a very long 90 minutes tonight... tinofbeans 91
tactically naieve fuckwit alert. attack is the best way of defending against these fucktards, especially with their league 2 fullbacks... we can murder them down the flanks.

Its through our ability to sense danger that we fear things and become cautious to whatever threat may be posed. In this case, the threat of alkmaar scoring two past us as we put 10 men behind the ball.

Wullie 0
"As things stand before the game, we do not have to score - and hopefully in the course of the game, we will not have to." That sums up the mentality of the man. We went, with a record of 1 clean sheet in the last 20, to defend a slender lead against a free scoring European side. Twice this season Alkmaar have scored 10 in a match. And we went to defend. Fuck off Glenn, just sling your fucking hook.
