Duff out to prove class

Damien Duff is determined to ensure his hard work on the training ground pays off in the final weeks of the season.

The Irish winger joined Newcastle from Chelsea last summer, but he has shown only flashes of quality on account of a number of niggling injuries.

Duff produced a solid display against AZ Alkmaar last week to prove to Newcastle fans he is still committed to the cause and he is looking to continue his good work in the final weeks of the season.

"Obviously I've had a lot of injury problems this season, which haven't helped me and so I haven't been fully fit or completely match-sharp when I have played," Duff told The Sun.

"But I've put in a lot of hard work on the training ground with Nigel Pearson, working on certain things - and that seems to be paying off.

"I feel really sharp now. I came into this season without a proper pre-season behind me and I don't think a lot of people realise that or see what it means.

"There are no problems now. I feel fit and good. I had a virus which lasted for 10 days or so and that knocked the wind out of me but I feel grand now and raring to go.

"When you join a new club, a big club, you're desperate to show your worth straight away, to prove to everyone what you can do. That didn't happen for me.

"It's frustrating but I have to get over that, keep working hard and show the fans what I'm all about. I'm determined to do that."

I dunno, I blame the transfer window tbh. Seen as it doesn't open until the season ends I think you just get loads of non-stories in the papers in lieu of transfer speculation. I appreciate a lot of articles on transfer speculation are non-stories too btw.

Speaking of it, there is hardly a day at the moment here in Jormany without clubs confirming signings for next season... <_<

Yes, but can you give me ONE example of a player agreeing to move to a club before the window opens? <_<
