Whilst I'm not getting too excited due to the disgrace that was Sensible Soccer 2006 (my copy was on eBay within 48hrs) looks like Codemaster's are doing a PC and Xbox version of SWOS, this time leaving the old Amiga code as it is.

got this email from them today:

Sensible World of Soccer, on Xbox Live Arcade and Vista this summer-------------------------------------------------------------------

It's been much-anticipated but finally coming soon: Sensible World ofSoccer - the original and best football game of all time comes toXbox Live Arcade and Windows Vista in the summer! Welcome to the first of the Sensible World of Soccer newsletters, where, over the next few months, I'll be going wild over the latestnews about one of the most thrilling game releases for many a year.

I'll also be highlighting in-depth details about the game, throughour SWOS forum articles we started running in mid-February. Firstly, and most importantly, as any fool knows, Sensible World ofSoccer (SWOS) was born out of the original version of Sensible Soccerin 1994. Further iterations came each year until 1997. But it's the1996 game, regarding as the pinnacle of the series, that'll form thebasis of the Xbox Live Arcade/Vista game released this summer. And we're committed *not to change a thing* about the game's coregameplay. For more details on this, check out my forum post on the core code:

But what changes will there be to bring the game into the 21stCentury? Well, to make the game dazzle on Xbox 360 and Vista we'vegiven you the option to update the graphics to high-definition if youwant to. As our Director of Casual Gaming recently said on thesubject: "Mode 1 will be the original Amiga game (we haven't touched the coregame code) with enhanced graphics and enhanced game features. Mode 2will be the actual original Amiga game from the mid-90s."

We've also highlighted the controls you'll be using in "SensibleWorld of Soccer" this summer. This could be perceived as a boringsubject to some, but as SWOS renowned for its one button action, it'san important one that we had to get right! And the Xbox 360 and PCcontrol system mirrors the simplicity of the original game - thisshould be a 'given' with a game like SWOS. For more details on thecontrols, check out the article here: http://community.codemasters.com/forum/sho...ad.php?t=165648 Finally this month, as if all of this wasn't enough, we're offeringyou the chance to be featured in the game. Yes, you. In Sensible World of Soccer. One of the oft-remembered parts of the SWOS was the weird andwonderful team and player names in the custom team section.

So as weupdate these for the new century we're asking for your suggestions, with the best 15 from the community appearing in the final Xbox LiveArcade version of the game! The competition couldn't be simpler. For more details, head over tothe forum thread on the competition, here:

http://community.codemasters.com/forum/sho...ad.php?t=164152 One word of advice though; get your team in quick - the competitionfinishes this coming Monday, the 19th, at 9am!

I'll be back with more news as we approach launch in four weeks - butfor now, enjoy the football, anticipate the return of SWOS andcelebrate!

------------------------Plan your career in SWOS------------------------ Sensible World of Soccer, coming to Xbox Live® Arcade (XBLA) andWindows Vista™ in the summer - and we can't wait until fans areplaying multiplayer SWOS across the net! The excitement is definitely building, and this last month saw a glutof new postings on the Sensible World of Soccer forum, with a lot ofdiscussion, arguments and praise along the way.

Our first article of the month highlighted the game's audio, focusingon the game's legendary theme tune "Goal-Scoring Superstar Hero", andits creator, the late, great Richard Joseph:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_Joseph And yes, that tune will be in the game! Read more on the game's audiohere: http://community.codemasters.com/forum/sho...ad.php?t=173671 We also covered one of the community's most hotly-anticipated talkingpoints - the career mode.

The career mode was pivotal to the SensibleWorld of Soccer experience, and was the most noticeable 'step-up' incontent between the earlier Sensible Soccer and its more reveredsibling when it appears in the 1994 version of the game (to remindyou all, the XBLA and Vista versions use the 1996 code). Within SWOS's career mode you could take over the team of your choiceand manage them, buy and sell players, gaining and losing money;depending on how well you did as a result, you would be offered newjobs at the end of the season.

And its back in all its original glory - read more on the career modenow: http://community.codemasters.com/forum/sho...ad.php?t=179586 We've also released two more screenshots of the game's new high-definition graphics in action this week, and we'll be showing offmore and more visuals from the game over the next few months as wecome to launch the game.

The screenshots can be viewed via our Flickr channel here:http://www.flickr.com/photos/codemasters/sets/72157594486397184/

Have your say - the forum thread is here:http://community.codemasters.com/forum/showthread.php?t=182109 Finally, the results from the recent artwork survey have now beenposted up on the forum along with the final artwork image. Thanks to those that responded to the survey, and you'll beinterested to know the stereotypical person who responded liked thegreen "ball on pitch" artwork (so that's what we'll go with), butpreferred it in blue (so we changed it to a blue background!).

They're a fan of the series from the mid-90s from when they were ateenager, having played on two systems at the time (most likely on PCand Commodore Amiga). These details scarily and accurately describeme if nothing else. http://community.codemasters.com/forum/sho...ad.php?t=176368 The final artwork image, as decided by you - is available on ourFlickr channel. You'll see this more and more throughout the summeras the build up to the game's launch approaches.

Fucking amateurs, Codemasters must be the worst software house on the planet.

Classic game Sensible World of Soccer has been removed from Microsoft's Xbox Live Arcade following reports that it was throwing players offline.

The game was put on Xbox Live Arcade as a download for owners of the console on 19 December.

But many who bought and downloaded it and tried to play online against other Xbox owners found that it disconnected them from the gaming network.

The game's makers said a fixed version would be posted as soon as possible.

Game over

Originally written by Sensible Software for the Amiga and Atari computers, the venerable football game has gathered a cult following since its appearance in the early 1990s.

The arrival of the game on the Xbox Arcade was widely promoted but the joy of fans was short-lived as the bug was discovered and the game was removed.

Codemasters, which now owns the game, posted a message to its support forum on the afternoon of the 19th explaining the disappearance.

The message said the problem with the online play was beyond its control to fix but added that Microsoft was working to correct the bug.

No timescale was given for when the fixed version would appear.

The message concluded: "We realise you have been waiting a long time for this release already and you (sic) continued patience is appreciated."

Disappointed fans posted messages to the same support forum criticising the release of the buggy version and calling for it to be fixed quickly.

One fan, called Taffdan, wrote: "...was up early before work to find that the game had come out but had been pulled.....poor show."

Larry Hryb, a senior executive at Microsoft, apologised to users on his personal blog.

He wrote: "If you downloaded this busted version, please delete it and when the new one is available you?ll be able to downloaded it again (at no charge if you purchased it.)" He added: "I?ll go yell at some folks for letting this happen."
