No-one uses the "old style" billion anymore tbh.

Do you think Abramovic has £10,000,000,000,000 in the bank?

This would make him 200 times richer than Bill Gates. Doubt it tbh

If you read all of what I said I don't actually think that. All I know is you don't get anyone more selfish than a smoker.

What a load of bollocks <_<

absolutely true. All think that their right to smoke outweighs everyone else's right to clean air.

Even if that were true, which it isn't, how would that make them any more selfish than a non-smoker who owned a massive gas guzzler of a car or any number of equally or more selfish individuals. If you'd said some smokers are very selfish, you'd be right. To state "you don't get anyone more selfish than a smoker" is totally preposterous.

But that would be an exception not a generalising fact. Look at the uproar from the smokers at the announcement at the smoking ban. And those that continue to flaunt it.

Sorry? What would be the exception? I don't understand the point you're making. Also, most of the 'uproar' has come from pressure groups with vested interests rather than individual smokers imo. Like I said, some are selfish but you suggested no one is more selfish than a smoker. I agree with the ban though.

You said that a smoker would be the same as a none smoker with a gas guzzling car. Therefore saying that all non smokers have a gas guzzling car. That is what would be an exception.

How did you work that out from what I said? <_<

You say smokers are no more selfish than a non smoker with a gas guzzling car. All Smokers smoke and this is bad. Not all none smokers do bad stuff. Is that clearer

All murderers murder but they don't all smoke, etc. B)

I've already said I don't have a problem with the ban, it's the uber self-rightiousness of some non-smokers and the looks that you get from some of them as you engage in an, as of today PERFECTLY LEGAL act within 10 yards of their vicinity.

That false cough gets right on my tits as well.

If you are in glasgow have a pop into Caley uni and see all the people smoking right under the no smoking signs.

If we get to the UEFA Cup final, I'll be sure to do that. <_<

If you'd said all students are wankers, while not exactly the truth, it would have been a far more reasonable generalisation.

I get the impression you think I'm a uber self-rightous ex-smoker though, which is a load of bollocks really - I just like arguing on internet message boards <_< . You do get these people though, I agree. Once the pub ban comes in they will be lobbying for people not to smoke in open public places, and once that happens it will be an outright ban on smoking. Fuck knows what ASH will do once they achieve that, they'll probably focus on alcohol.

after a lifetime of being anti -smoking I'm begiining to think we're almost there in the UK

If people want to smoke in private at home that's their business, liek palying russian roulette - as long as it doesn't harm anyone else it's OK by me

Just another way in which the accident of birth can lumber you with parents who damage you one way or another, I suppose, albeit one that's theoretically slightly easier to regulate than most...

tbh I expect something like that to follow, they are already trying it on in parts of the USA.

The question is where you draw the line between heath and nannystate.

I don't smoke and will find the world a nicer place with the ban, however some of the recent government proganda to do with passive smoking is frankly shocking. To get that 25% statistic they are bandying about you need to work in a very smoke atmosphere 8 hours a day for years, not just a few hours down the pub ever week or whatever.

Kids are the real issue anyway and a lot of that WILL be in the home.
