Isegrim 10017
Never even tasted a cigarette in my life. I am win. Not even a spliff? Nope. It's enough that I am doing funny dances when I am drunk...
Guest alex
the sooner the ban comes in, the better. tax the crap out of them too The same should apply to drinkers then imo. Can open, worms EVERYWHERE I think the tax on both is a bit ridiculous (although particularly on smoking). But the cost of policing in town and city centres at weekends must be astronomical. The people drinking in those places should be the ones who have to pay for that imo.

I wouldn't have a problem with that. It wouldn't bother me that much, although it would probably make fuck all difference to the state people get themselves into in the town on a weekend. They'd just get to do it one night less per month. The way some of these wankers carry on when mortal is far more anti-social than smoking. Cath's the one you need to watch. If you accidentally knock into her in the Trent after a couple of their double vodkas. Let's just say it gets serious. I can't see taxation being based around the brands of vodka you drink You know what I mean though. If you taxed alco-pops to the hilt, bars would do cheap doubles with a mixer and a shot of syrup of something like that to get round it and so on. luckyluke 2
That snopes website is run by spoilsports. Who cares if it's false? If you really want to quit smoking, sititing in lung cancer clinics for a week will certainly do the job. I used to smoke occasionally when I'd ben drinking, but fuck that. Renton 22437
Could say the same about drinking tbh With two major differences: Despite there now being only 25% or so of people who are smokers (compared to how many who drink?), the burden smoking caused on the NHS is far, far higher than for drinking. It is amajor cause of stroke, heart attack, lung cancer, and literally dozens of other diseases. Have you ever heard of passive drinking? Not saying alcohol doesn't cause major problems, but you can't really compare it to smoking. Edited March 14, 2007 by Renton

I'm not too fussed about the ban tbh, but smoking related illnesses cost the NHS £1.5bn, smoking revenue is £7bn Edited March 14, 2007 by Sima

True enough I suppose, but as far as I aware those activities are already illegal.

I'm not too fussed about the ban tbh, but smoking related illnesses cost the NHS £1.5bn, smoking revenue is £7bn Have you got a source for that Sima? I'd imagine the NHS bill is very hard to quantify considering the huge amount of illnesses caused or worsened by smoking. Not that I'm that bothered, I've always thought that in reality smokers might save us money by not living to be old enough to go senile in old age homes. I want a ban in pubs though, mainly for the smell which is truely nauseating for a non-smoker (mainly when you get home after), and for health reasons (i.e. passive smoking).
