Guest stevieintoon
I know fuck all about cars. I'm not far away from passing my test now, yes I know pathetic at my age, should've done it when I was 17 not 29, and I'm looking for a car. I should have about £1500 to buy one, and I appreciate I won't be driving a top of the range BMW for that, but can anyone suggest a car within my price range, that is: a) reliable not like a wheelchair c) good on petrol/diesel - miles to the gallon d) not too ugly I'm completely open minded about this, and the key thing is I'll be able to increase my earning potential 5 fold if I get on the road. Gemmill 47572
My stepdad was selling his old Merc - ridiculously well looked after, service history, dead reliable and all that malarkey - for £950 last week, but I think he might just have decided to keep it. This can't have been too bad cos he's been all over the country with it for work, and he was forever wittering on to me about fuel economy and that. He's got himself a diesel one now though. I don't watch Top Gear, but apparently it's the one where they tried to destroy the engine and couldn't. Apparently they detonated explosives on it, and it still started up fine. That was a Toyota pickup truck wasn't it? They crashed it, leftit in the Bristol Channel, set fire to it, and finally put it on top of a high rise block of flats being demolished. My advice as a carpet fitter would be get a little van No go for something like a Ka or saxo (wind your macho neck in and accept) A major factor on what car you get is the insurance They are good on petrol My future son in law has one and he is 6'5" build like a shit house. He enjoys driving it, they have most electric gadgets in. Fairly cheap

The Fish 11122
loads of cars for sale online and if you're willing to put the time in you'll find the car of your dreams for a reasonable price.
Dr Kenneth Noisewater 0
You'd not go far wrong with a fiesta or corsa for your first car. Cheap and plentiful supply. If you're not bothered about image, I'd go for a Skoda Fabia or a Toyota Yaris (good diesels available in both). Basically avoid anything French if you're going to be relying on your wheels for work. Nowt wrong with modern Skodas, the Fabia is just a Polo anyway - only its cheaper. Anyway, here's a car up for sale. http://news.bbc.co.uk/nol/ukfs_news/hi/new...900/6433955.stm
MrBass 2837
If you can add another zero to the end of what you're able to spend then you can have mine. Extremely quick, never had a problem with it, electric heated leather seats, aircon, 6 CD Bose sound system, central locking, thatcham 1 alarm and great on fuel too - absolutely loves the stuff, never stops drinking it!
