Flying at the minute but thick mick took them out of that league.

They'll be able to attract better players than the likes of Chris Brown when they go up this time though

Yeah, they look streets ahead of what McCarthy had last time.

Don't be surprised to see them hang onto the likes of Evans when they achieve Premier League status

Some are getting a bit over giddy though

bar michael owen i wouldnt honestly swap in player in the newcastle squad foor any of our and we will add if and when we are promoted

Speaking of over-giddy, my sister's mackem boyfriend text me to offer me a £100 bet on them finishing above us next season. I couldn't text back quick enough to accept.

I've already offered him double or quits on it for the season after, assuming they stay up.

A mackem who plays for my Sunday League team proposed the same bet to my mate when we were out on the drink a couple of weeks back, only it was £200, suffice to say he accepted.

this was like the time howard wilkinson took over and splashed the cash

Do you mean the Howard Wilkinson who was statistically Sunderland's worst ever manager compared to Roy Keane who has taken them from relegation candidates to promotion hopefuls?

Aye I can see the similarities there alright.

I'm no Sunderland lover, but they have a chance of becoming a good club right now. To me they're bigger than the likes of Tottenham, who the fuck takes 8,000 away in the Championship, who could?

I think David Connolly is the most underrated striker in English football, him and Stokes could do well next season.

From this week's editorial in True Faith.

I’ve noticed lately that fellow Mags are talking about the SMB in less than the usual piss-taking fashion and it’s a sign of the drift the club is in right now that supporters are casting anxious and admiring looks at the new set up in the Village of the Damned. Well, I think you are all getting up tight for nowt. Keane has many qualities to endear him – he is a bull-shit free zone for example but let’s have it right his side has done precisely one point better than that of Mick McCarthy, the Wolves manager who you may remember had rather a large part in their hilarious 19pt and 15pt recent relegation seasons, has had around the same amount of time in his job to Keane and rather less cash at his disposal. Perhaps those of you who are getting it in the neck from Mackems coming over all a bit previous need to be reminded of this statistic. That and the fact they don’t have a single player on their books who is a Premiership quality player they can call their own. That and Niall Quinn traipsing around every Mackem drinking dive begging them to come and see his team. Don’t give the fuckers an inch …

It's one thing to get promotion but it provides no guarantees for how they'll fare in the Premiership. I reckon Connolly's right level is the Championship, he'll struggle at PL level, the same may apply to the rest of their squad but it's hard to say at this stage.

Anyone know how much money their owners are capable giving Keane should they get promoted?

It allways turns to shit for them as soon as they hit the Prem tbh,

well of recent times.

I dont think they have the quality (nor can they afford to purchase the quality) to sustain a premiership team capable of beating the drop.

Still a derby would be nice*

*if we get the 6 points

I'd say they're much stronger financially than Reading tbh

I think it also depends on Keane staying, which I reckon he will. He'll guide them to respectability before taking over from Ferguson at Man U.

Keane won't go straight to Man Utd, Spurs could be looking for a new manager soon IIRC
