Anyone watched any of these shows yet ???

Caught the killing of the pigs lastnight, I was brought up as a vegetarian but found the slaughter of the pigs in the last episode surprisingly civilised, was expeciting a far more basic and brutal killing,

Although I found the acceptance of the vet's assumption of the pigs being euthnaised with the electric shock a little too easily accepted for my liking.

I would imagine some animals might be more aware than believed and are supposed to be, but from experience the stunning tongs (if that's what you mean, I never saw it) are pretty nasty things and (if used correctly) having that much current passed across their brain isn’t going to leave them in much state of awareness.

I’m much less sure about many of the “cultural” methods of slaughter however, some I’d say almost guarantee some form of cruelty, as indeed do the most industrialised versions.

But in general I'd say a stint working in or just viewing an abattoir is pretty educational, much like working in a hospital or a vets, and generally would maybe stop most of the population from both being such big girls blouses and also being a bit more aware of how the world really works.

Are you still vegetarian Jimbo? I can't imagine doing without chicken, beef and pork products.

No, I was allowed to make my own choice regarding food, although I think I could be vegetarian without too much hassle, I just enjoy eating meat too much.

Same here. Another thing that bothers me about being a vegetarian is you're often restricted to the choice of one or two meals at a restaurant. Or chips.

I saw them all, and was impressed by the relative humaneness of it, although I fear not all abbatoirs are like this one. They're a lot worse abroad though, so the least I can do is try and eat British meat, which isn't always easy tbf.

It is quite hard, especially when every pub assumes that vegetarians like deep fried mushrooms and dont mind a meat stock in their vegetable soup :baby:
