What worries me is not only the fact we look a bit clueless and listless at times, it's also that he seems incapable of persuading half decent footballers to join the club. The fact he's gone on and on about always being on the phone during the last two transfer windows only does himself harm, as it makes him look like he's shit at dealing with transfers. Personally, I can just see another summer transfer windown where we sign fuck all apart from the overpaid and underperforming billy big bollocks that relegated West Ham want rid of.

So who do you want in the summer?

And who do you think Freddy The Hut can actually attract?

I don't know to be honest. I think we will get Shearer but he would have to bring in a quality coachinf staff and get rid of what we have. I actually think the whole set up needs re structuring.

I dunno that Shearer would be a great manager (he’s completely unproven - he might be – I’d hope for this as he seems to know what he’s talking about, but he might not be - either way he'd be vastly inexperienced), but the real issue with Shearer is that I don't think he'd be daft enough to come back and manage Newcastle. I think he might do a Trevor Brooking emergency stint, but I think it would take a lot to get him back anytime soon otherwise (a Shearer/Robson managerial partnership might have been excellent but that will never happen now).

Other than that candidates of the likes of KK or SBR (or even Daglish) aren’t exactly two a penny and certainly aren’t knocking at Newcastle’s door.

I honestly thought Freddie was going to get it right when he sacked Souness, he didn't rush into a decision and seemed happy to wait until the end of the season when we had more chance of getting a better manager.

And he went and gave it to Roeder. What a twat.

It looks like we are satisfied with mid table tbh

so long as he's not gettng us relegated we'l keep the useless bastard :D

And to think Robson was sacked because 5th wasn't good enough...

from a chairmans point of view you can see why he (roeder) is there.

lapdog thats cheap.

he's a competent coach that clearly has his favourites, and unfortunately his favourites aren't necessarily ours.

if we get top 8 then i'd be happy this season. if we get a better manager, i'd be even happier next season.

i really don't think we should employ shearer as a coach or manager until he's at least proven he can actually coach....

You wouldn't believe who we've had interested in the managerial job... aye, righto Fred.

I know he is "steadying the ship" but I have seen nothing to convince me he is the man for the job. I have seen no improvement in the basics of the game i.e. keeping possesion. And have seen some bad decisions team wise. What do you lot think?

Didnt we do that against Wergem and we got booed off at Half Time? yes we should have been beating them more comfortably but surley if we have the ball they cant score, so why boo?

But yes, some decisions still shock me, although they shouldnt now.

Best man who wants the job. FACTUALLY

I get the feeling he didn't scour the globe looking for the right person. Roeder was the cheap (and the easy) option.

We could have got Houllier in the summer IMO, he's doing well with Lyon but when he was linked with us he said he wants to come back to England and See's this country as his home.

Practically saying "come and get me"

He's an average manager - no better, no worse.

He's certainly not "the right man for the job" (the best possible manager we could get is that I assume?), but him leaving now would be completely pointless.

Clearly not charismatic, particularly strong tactically and I distrust his ability to bring in players. He has steadied the ship but he isnt one to take us to where I think we should be.

Very few clubs can generate the turnover we can. That potential has always been there. We need someone who can be seen to bring confidence to the supporters. they need to know that it is worth parting with their money.

I'm far from convinced Roeder is that man. We have finished in the lower half of the league 5 times in 10 years. With Robson it was evident that he had the ability to construct a team and the fans backed him and turnover from ticket sales and merchandise was unaffected. Taking into account the larger capacity stadium, of course it increased. In percentage terms we didnt make as much as we would have during the 4 'difficult' years. I dont think they will be as willing to back Roeder. It will be difficult to regenerate the optimism if we dont make swift progress on the pitch. In the end that is the core of this business.

We really should have planned a successor to Bobby a long time ago. Its not like people didnt know he was getting old. If we had then Souness may not have been appointed. Strategic planning involves the long term, of course. That includes the key figures within a business. Probably the most important figure at the club leaves a lot to be desired in my opinion. Can't really blame him for taking the opportunity though.

He's not the man for the job. There's only so long you can placate the fans with "steadying the ship."

As to who to replace him with, hypothetically, I think the two best managers in the Premiership right now are Wenger and Steve Coppell. Wenger because although the Arse won't win anything this year, he is clearly planning for the future, something that doesn't often happen on Tyneside.

Coppell is my top pick for Newcastle manager. His skills are obvious to the point of being glaring. He knows how to finish top six without an all-star squad, which (since we don't look like buying an all-star squad) we need to learn how to do. I don't want to jump on the Reading bandwagon, but Coppell is quality.

I would agree that he has 'steadied the ship' to some degree but so far he hasn't been able to get the ship under-weigh and moving ahead on an even keel. I'm not sure he has the capability to do that but would like to see him succeed.

At times I can't fault him for some of the results we get albeit I don't always agree with his line-ups. Against the Boro however he fielded a team that I would have chose from the players that were available and it was a match from which the players themselves should have got the 3 points.

I believe success can only come for Roeder if he can assemble the right mix of players for next season and unless he is given the necessary funds we'll be looking at another long season of high-hopes and low-spirits.

With all the players currently on the books and in tip-top condition I have doubts that we can compete with the likes of Man.Utd., Chelsea, and Arsenal for the top three places.

A sensible point? we don't like sensible points in these parts. :D
