luckyluke 2
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/6404755.stm Go-ahead for goal-line technology The International Football Association Board (IFAB) has given the go-ahead for the development of goal-line technology at a meeting in Manchester. A number of systems will now be further developed, including one proposed by the Premier League and Hawk-Eye, who have systems in cricket and tennis. FA chief executive Brian Barwick said: "We all believe that goal-line technology is the way to move forward. "If we are going to introduce it, it has got to be 100% accurate." Premier League spokesman Dan Johnson added: "We are pleased with the reception that our presentation got and that we can progress to further stages of testing the Hawkeye system." The IFAB has laid down four criteria for the goal-line technology systems. # That technology should only apply to goal-line decisions. # That the systems must be 100% accurate. # That the signal to the referee must be instantaneous # That the signal is only communicated to the match officials. Adidas and German firm Cairos will also continue to develop their system where there is a microchip inside the ball.

Happy Face 29
on Thursday football chiefs will decide which technology will be given the green light.... Down to 2....the German syystem is on the left, the english one on the right.... http://www.bbc.com/news/technology-18692702 Have to go with the Germans on this one like. If it's ever going to be applied in leagues other than the very top then that looks most feasible.
Happy Face 29
Hawk-Eye relies on more than 25% of the ball being visible to its cameras. A messy goalmouth scramble could stop it working. But the Hawk-Eye method brings great "was it in?!" drama, and while Goalref can merely tell the referee and supporters that the ball has gone in, Hawk-Eye can provide documented evidence of the fact via an instant virtual-reality replay. WTF? that's what we're tryuing to avoid here, right?

Happy Face 29
I vote for instant replays and continued confusion! That's exactly how I feel tbh. Let's stick with maximum drama in the first place. Proposing a solution on the merits of great drama, but less drama than we currently have is like something off Look Around You.
trophyshy 7073
I think the Hawkeye solution will be great. Works well in the cricket, and the drama is resolved rather than providing the media/fans something to get irked about for 40 years plus.

PaddockLad 17112
You cant have goaline technology because then there will be a call for it to be used for offside, then diving, then something fuckin else...where do you stop?...

Blatter was telling people to fuck off about it till a couple of years ago.....the pricks in the media will drive this, as they have with getting it to be even considered by FIFA in the first place. So you think it would be ok just for goaline technology?....you wouldnt have wanted it to be used for something like Maradonna's "hand of god"?..."if its sat there at the side of the pitch, why not use it?..." Football has been fine without it for 125 years, but now because people stand to lose money and status it has to be changed?....its the tail wagging the dog. For me they can fuck off with their technology. Edited July 4, 2012 by PaddockLad
Gemmill 44425
How is a magnet in a ball gonna help with an offside decision? Or a handball? There is never the outcry in the media about an offside decision as there is about a blatant over the line disallowed goal. Sort this out and forget about the other stuff. Blatter is completely incompetent and is detriment to the sport - this is the man who wanted to introduce a system where 0-0 draws were impossible. :lol; There needs to be procedures introduced that cut out ghost goals and rightly award ones that go over the line. Too many teams have been screwed over because FIFA are buried up their own arses. Football as a whole will benefit from the introduction of goal line technology, as all other sports that employ it have.

"The referee's decision is final" was certainly good enough for everyone, let him make (or not) the decisions, up until big money became involved. Because of the global nature of the game the rules had to be strongly defended to maintain absoloute and blanket integrity. Rugby,Cricket and Tennis have basically introduced and undermined the ref's authority in those sports at the behest of Rupert Murdoch. The technology has been introduced since he started bankrolling these sports (in this country anyway). It's largely for the benefit of the armchair fan, which makes it a commercial decision and not a sporting one. Football loses something without contentious decisions iyam, its been part of the sport since its inception and I dont want it to change from that becasue its convenient for a meglomaniac fuckin crook. Why not just follow your argument to it's conclusion and have decisions decided by the toss of a coin?
