Worst city or town for a night out in (international edition)

1. Adelaide, Australia

The most boring city on the face of the Earth. Even on a Friday or Saturday night the place is dead, and everything either closes early or worse, is full of South Australians. No decent pubs or clubs, no decent chicks to look at and SA beer is god awful.

I went to Adelaide recently, it wasn't as bad as it was in past experiences. I'd rate Sydney as worse.

Both are better than Perth. FACT!

And Cooper's beer is nice.

What facts are these?

I quite enjoy our nightlife, could be the problem? :D

Well, I preferred Adelaide tbh. I don't think Sydney needs to worry either :D

Wellsy makes a fair point, we're all slagging off places as a night out, but surely it's dependent on what we look for in a night out?

I like a pint in my local, then onto a swanky bar or two, then maybe (if I'm in the mood) a good night club which doesn't play chart music at all.

If I can fit a comedy club into that mix as well I'm cooking with Gas!

but I know that a few on here despise swanky bars with a fire that would melt rock.

With that in mind, if you aren't into getting rat-arsed, Newcastle is nowt special (to put it politely).

I like the bars on Mosley and Neville Street, I know they can be a bit rammed with priapic idiots desperate to seem more macho than the next guy, but honestly I'd prefer three or four groups of those fools than just one idiot charver singing at the top of his voice to the latest Usher track.

The Head of Steam is ok. The Centurion is ok when it's quiet too I suppose (bit of a nondescript, not sure where else to go crowd on a Friday/Saturday night imo) as the room itself is amazing.

I like centurion a lot, very useful when I'm dossing about waiting for a train (good)

Aye, I just can't really suss the place out of a weekend evening. Not trendy, the music's naff, the crowd isn't that old or young, but it just seems a bit soul-less. It's a nice place for a drink on an afternoon though. Does nice beer too, or it used to.

What was the Centurion before they turned it into a bar though? As you say, the room is class, but what did it function as previously?

Originally it was the first class lounge apparently, but it was forgotten about and was being used as a storage room with the tiles inside boarded up. They were only rediscovered by chance. Or so I heard.

Ah right. That was my guess (first class lounge), but I hadn't been sure.

3. Moscow, Russia

Firstly, going out at night scared the crap out of me because I had enough hassle from the police during the day, at night I had no idea how bad it'd get. Anyway, the bars and stuff typically start off quite cheap until you get a small group of you happening that are foreigners and then magically their prices go up by three times or more. At the start of the night pints started off at about 50 Rubles (just under £1). This was at a pretty posh place too, you can find cheaper beer around, but at the start of the night there was only two of us. After an hour four other met us and just like that they were charging us 200 Rubles per pint. Just for being foreigners. Wankers.

Kiev was a bit the same. The police are (possibly now were, as this was 2002 and things are improving) bent as fuck. We were warned by the bloke in the hotel that if we intended to get rat arsed after the match, we'd more than likely get pulled on the way home, and unless 'cash exchanged hands' we'd not be going back to the hotel. We were lucky, but it happened to a couple of the lads in our hotel. The bloke was keen to stress this would happen weather it was a football visit or not, aswell.

They didn't up the prices mind, it was working out at about 25-50p a bottle for lager, and it was canny stuff aswell.

It was superb to visit a place like Kiev, mind. A real eye opener. Bollocks would I be picking it for a night out though!

Germany.

I love Germany.

I love it too, it doesn't have a real night life culture though. I like the English pub culture, just a shame about the beer.

And Frankfurt is a shit place anyway.
