fitting cds into cars

I've just been given a CD player (JVC KD-S641)to stick in my X reg Mondeo. Tonight ( if it stops raining) I'll have a go at sticking it in, but is it worth my while? I mean how hard is it likely to be?

Any advice, assistance anyone can offer would be appreciated.

Actually Should this be in the help forum instead? If so sorry like but its too late now, unless a mod can move it.

He gave me some car audio connectors from halfords that I might need as well. wooo hoo exciting.

Although Im not even sure how much I really want a CD player as I listening to my i-pod via the cassette player now and I have no problems.

I think you've answered your own question there tbh, if you're happy with the quality then it would be daft to go from all your iPod tunes to a single disc cd

Sounds like it might be a backward step if you like listening to your iPod, unless you fancy investing in an FM transmitter.

i know you're both right perhaps it is a backwards step

how much are we talking for a FM transmitter - and are they any good?

you can pick up iTrips for around £30.

the one is solid and plugs directly into the cigarette lighter, the iPod is cradled inside, but you still use the iPod buttons, which can be an arse when you're driving, because in general lighters are out of the way.

what about these cheap things though? macally iceFM less than £15 and as I've been given the CD player for nothing could I be onto a winner?

I had one similar, they can be ok but if there is a local radio station that shares a similar frequency they can interfere with eachother.

is there anyway I could find out what frequency it would use in advance?

edit: looking at the website there seems to be 4 channels it will work out so there's a chance i would be ok?

seen it cheaper again on amazon as well so may be worth a try!

all this is assuming i can manage to fit the player into my car mind, and that may be a big ask knowing what Im like!

The iTrip lets you pick your own frequency but like Jimbo says it can be a pain in the arse to find a good clear one, on long journeys theyre shite as you're permanently hunting out a new frequency.

surely its not asking a lot to have all car cd players built with an audio in jack socket? Or am I being naive?

Well if i can get the player in I think i may try one of these transmitters you can get for less than a tenner on play.com, nothing to lose eh?

You might be lucky but occasionally you will get interfrence.

I got a Goodmans stereo for my car that has an iPod connector lead, only cost me about £80, that plays CD's too.

well for a tenner i could live with the occasional interference.

just had a quick try at getting the cassette player out using wire coat hangers and it wouldn't budge. Damn fallen at the first hurdle! I'll try again later and see if my dad-in-law can help.

Take a trip down to Halfords and get the extractor tools.

And while you're there get yourself a CD player with an input jack for your iPod. :(

Good call

You should have asked a couple of weeks back when our scouse chums were visiting the board. Could have it out in seconds. And sold for skag.
