Meenzer 15412
The Vicar of Dibley is one of the worst comedies ever. Worse still, it's allowed Dawn French to continue her career as an alleged "funny woman". Which reminds me (albeit at a tangent) - Chef!.
ChezGiven 0
Is Penelope Keith in it? Btw, Howard's Way wasn't a sitcom was it? She also had the cheek to have a whinge on tele the other week about how no-one wants to make her stuff anymore. Shame.

Shearergol 0
COMIC Rik Mayall has blasted the BBC — claiming you have to be a black lesbian to work there. The former Young Ones and New Statesman star hit out at his former employers for ditching a final series of outrageous sitcom Bottom. Rik believes that the BBC banned him from the channel for being STRAIGHT. The comedian, 47, blames former BBC2 controller Jane Root for killing off the show, which he wrote with co-star Adrian Edmondson. He said: “She destroyed mine and Adrian’s baby. The last series of Bottom, she didn’t like it. “They never made it because she didn’t like it. It was the finest series of Bottom we’d written. “You have to be black, homosexual and a woman to work at the BBC. “That’s why they didn’t like Bottom. They were two men who were heterosexual and that was the problem. “The BBC banned Adrian and I from being on TV, for being heterosexual or known to disagree with the Government.” BBC bosses also outraged Rik by turning down a comedy drama he penned called The Murderers. He claimed: “They didn’t have the balls to take The Murderers which was as good as The Young Ones. British TV used to be the finest in the world, now it’s totally imploded.” Rik is now working for ITV and appears in All About George on Thursday nights. Seemingly oblivious to the fact that they've dumped Bottom because it's shite. I quite like it (classic slapstick), but I'm really looking forward to putting BBC1 on tonight and being confronted by an army of black lesbians presenting the news, on Eastenders, on the Dragons Den etc! To be fair, there is a black lesbian on Eastenders. Or have I missed the point?

GeordieMessiah 2
Bread. - Wrong, just wrong. On so many different levels. Butterflies. As Time Goes By. No Place Like Home. The Liver Birds. And "The Young Ones" was just pure shite. One decent episode as far as I recall. Fuck me - you just have to look at the listings for UKGold. So called best television in the world... Although on the other hand there's been some classics. Dad's Army for example. Untouchable. Fawlty Towers.

GeordieMessiah 2
Yes, the Young Ones just leaves me cold. I can barely raise a grin when I watch it these days. All except the University Challenge episode. Whereas, Dad's Army at least elicits the occasional chuckle: "They don't like it up 'em" "Don't panic, Mr Mainwaring" "Don't tell him, Pike!!" "Doomed! Doomed! We're all doomed" Untouchable.

Meenzer 15412
Young Ones was great for its time but does come across as terribly dated now. Not its fault that comedy's moved on in the meantime - in a way, the fact that it was a blueprint for a lot of later stuff is a huge compliment but also very much the problem with it. University Challenge episode is still fantastic though, as mentioned.
