Van: It's For You Robson

DUTCH striker Ruud van Nistelrooy has dedicated the goal he scored against Newcastle to sacked Toon boss Bobby Robson.

The Manchester United star, 29, worked with Sir Bobby at PSV Eindhoven in the early 90s.

He had met his 72-year-old former boss at his Tyneside hotel before the Premiership game at St James’ Park on Sunday.

It was on August Bank Holiday Monday last year that the former England manager’s five-year reign ended with the axe.

On hearing that, Van Nistelrooy pledged to score a goal for him.

Van Nistelrooy said: “I spoke to Sir Bobby and I promised him that goal.

“It was good to see him and he told me that it was exactly a year ago he got the sack at St James’ Park, so that goal was for him.”

Van Nistelrooy completed Toon’s misery with an injury-time strike to add to Wayne Rooney’s goal.

The defeat sent Graeme Souness’ side to 19th in the Premiership — the position they were in when life-long Newcastle fan Robson took charge of his first domestic game in September 1999.

What about the dive and the shocking header miss? Who were they for? A dedication to Buster Keaton?

He was just being nice and keeping us in suspense. :D

Nothing was more certain than Van Horsehead scoring on Sunday - well, apart from Rooney scoring.
