Police are to ask for help in finding the killer of a four-month-old boy who died after a house fire on Tyneside.

Neighbours said mother Danielle Wails, 21, was attacked in her home in Cowgate by two men, who tied her up and set light to the building. She was rescued after dialling 999 with her tongue and screaming through the letterbox, and is now in Newcastle General Hospital intensive care. Her son Alexander Gallon was also taken to hospital, but later died. Northumbria Police launched a murder inquiry and said they were appealing for people with information to come forward.

Neighbour Leanne Horspool, 15, said Ms Wails had been shouting for help through the letterbox until the fire brigade arrived and broke down the door. "She stumbled out of the front door and was just all black and looked like she was covered in soot," said Ms Horspool. "She told me she had managed to dial 999 with her tongue. She was shouting, 'My baby, my baby is in there'." Chantelle Stoker, 12, said: "A wire was hanging down from one wrist and looked like it had been pulled tight with a knot in.

"She was saying that two men had got in, hit her and tied her up, then set the house alight. "The firemen helped her out of the door and she just fell to the ground."

The property is understood to be run by a charity that houses single parents and pregnant women, and neighbours said Ms Wails had been there for five or six weeks.

careful on this one lads 'n lasses

that police statement seems to indicate they aren't at all sure about the facts here

Just got the Chronicle and saw that, awful. I hope they find the bastards and rip their heads off. What's wrong with people?

And the Owen story dominates the headlines...

I think this story should, maybe help the polis to catch the scum.

BBC are only quoting that a 21 y/o woman has been arrested.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/tyne/4200000.stm

It did seem strange when you watched the news reports yesterday that they were often stressing the fact that the arrested woman wasnt the mother. Just seemed to be making a big point of the fact.

remember that lass that killed her boyfriend and claimed "some road rage killer" had done it??? The law kept saying "she isn't a suspect" - right up until they arrested her

they are very good at spotting something odd - hell they see enough of it FFS - and their whole approach here suggests this isn't straightforward

From the beeb

no doubt there are many 21 year old women around in Cowgate

"Second arrest in fire death case

Alexander Gallon

Four-month-old Alexander Gallon died in the fire

A 21-year-old Newcastle woman has been arrested on suspicion of murder by police investigating the death of a baby boy in a fire.

Four-month-old Alexander Gallon died in the fire at a house in Cowgate, Newcastle, on Sunday night.

His mother Danielle Wails, 21, told police she was bound with telephone cord by two men who entered the house, attacked her and started the fire.

On Tuesday, another woman in her early 20s was arrested and bailed by police.

More tests

On Tuesday, police revealed they were searching for two men in connection with the incident.

On Wednesday, police said that early indications following a post-mortem examination on the baby showed he had died as a result of the fire. Further tests will be carried out.

Police also said they had CCTV footage which showed two men in the area at 2230 BST on Sunday night.

They have appealed for the men to come forward "

How did she get free from the telephone cord?

Sounds like the telephone cord business was one big, twisted cover up. She's now been charged with the murder of her own baby

Police have charged a 21-year-old Tyneside woman with the murder of her four-month-old son.

Alexander Gallon died in a fire at a house in Cowgate, Newcastle, on Sunday.

Northumbria Police said his mother, Danielle Catherine Wails, had been charged with murder and would appear in court on Friday.

Ms Wails was arrested by detectives on Wednesday. Police have suspended an appeal for two men initially sought in connection with their inquiries.

On Tuesday, another woman in her early 20s was arrested and bailed by police.

Police said that early indications following a post-mortem examination on the baby showed he had died as a result of the fire.

Further tests are being carried out.

Most likely she fell asleep with a ciggie in her mouth, set the place on fire, woke up and paniced

but a murder charge?

if she'd come screaming out of the house and told the truth it would have been "tragic accident"

happens every week.............................

I thought there was more to this case than meets the eye but the case has took a very strange twist. Whatever the outcome, it's tragic for all concerned.

Don't know the full facts so it is very wrong to pass any comment yet...

The facts known is that a four month old baby died as a result of a fire that the police believe to have been started suspiciously and that in itself is truly, truly tragic.....

RIP little one!

If the mother did do it, someone is bound to say that she was pushed to the edge by her hard life.

It wasn't like she was acting out of desperation. She could have given the child up.

The only motive I can think of is wanting the attention and sympathy of other people.

Munchausen syndrome by proxy?

Munchausens is keeping the kid ill or incapacitated so that the mother can care for them more, am I right? Seems a bit extreme to set a fire.

That said, sufferers can go way too far. She may be just not right in the head.

RIP
