Jimbo 175
GLENN ROEDER will make a treble raid on his old club West Ham if they go down at the end of the season. The Newcastle and ex-Hammers boss is lining up bids for striker Dean Ashton, defender Anton Ferdinand and skipper Nigel Reo-Coker. Roeder (below) missed out on Ashton when he moved to Upton Park from Norwich for £7.25million last January. And he sees Ferdinand as the answer to Toon's defensive problems. Budget Midfielder Reo-Coker has been earmarked as a possible replacement for Emre — as we revealed last week. Roeder, though, will be working on a limited budget. So he will need to raise funds with the sale of Emre and Spanish flop, £9.5million winger Albert Luque. Scottish giants Celtic are also interested in full-back Stephen Carr, while Ipswich are likely to re-sign Titus Bramble on a free as he is out of contract in the summer. Gejon 2
All a bit dodgy imo! Ferdinand seems a bit Bramble-esque, Reo-Coker is at the moment just a one season wonder and Ashton seems very injury prone! Would rather try for Ben Haim/Distin and Sidwell on a free and a quality striker or even Viduka (again free). No doubt Ashton would cost more than it would be worth risking! Dr Kenneth Noisewater 0
I'd have Ashton here in a flash, I'll reseve judgement on Reo-Coker, but Ferdinand is a definite no in my book.
Baggio 0
Ferdinand is shite, Ashton is overrated and a midfield pairing of Parker and Reo-Coker would be awful.

Glen 0
Erm, why is everyone writing off Ferdinand straight away? He's a brilliant young player. In no way "Bramble-esque". For the first time in ages I'm very excited by at least two of these signings, with Reo Coker being a kinda "meh" signing, but jesus, I'd take him at the moment. tinofbeans 91
in reality ferdinad is average, no way, he's poor man, very poor. dependant on ashton sorting his ankle out, he would be ideal for us here. reo coker is a good player but nothing special. beleives his own hype. i'd take ashton. TheInspiration 1
Ashton would be the perfect signing for us - big and strong and can make the chances for other players. However he'll probably cost loads and will jsut get injured again, knowing our luck.
Brock Manson 0
I'd like to see us go for Benayoun. Better than Reo-Coker at least.

Tooj 17
Tevez tbh Don't try and bring that class act into this thread mate as apparently if you listen to the media it's all his fault that West Ham are in the shit.

Geordie Boot Girl 0
imo should of brought Aston in as soon as we knew Shearer was leaving - would of been a great for him to play along side and learn from him - but hey Newcastle always seem to do things backwards
David Kelly 1260
I like Reo Coker quite a bit. Whenever I've seen him play he seems to be always involved in the game (something I find can be lacking from our players, especially away from home). Ashton would be a good signing but I can't see how we can expect to keep him Owen, Martins and Shola happy. Chelski, Manure & Liverpool all have problems keeping top forwards happy and they are in the champions league and challenging for the title (well the bin dippers obviously aren't). And we haven't managed it in the past either. I'm not sure Ferdinand is poor like some are saying (I think he could turn out to be a very good player) but at the minute he's not of the level we need and he's just too young. We need and experienced head back there. Nobby is showing how much a quality experienced player can do for us and I think this would be much more if we could get an experienced centreback. He's the brother of a half decent international defender, therefore he must automatically be a "brilliant young player". In reality he's shite and when you speak to reasonable Hammers fans, they'll tell you that Ferdinand is largely to blame for the woeful defensive performances this season... On the other hand, because he's called Ferdinand, he gets labelled as shit. For some reason fans seem to hate the pair of them, when in truth, Rio is actually one of the best defenders in Europe. Anton is by no means the finished article, but I'd rather have him here than Ramage, Moore or Bramble.
