ROEDER READY TO PUSH OWEN

Why do we need to make a big thing of "rushing him back in" to the press anyway??

All it's going to do is leave a shit load of egg on Roeder's face if it all goes horribly wrong....

With Shola it was more about playing through pain, though. When it became obvious that there was a real danger to his career, he was withdrawn.

You didn't have to be a medical expert to see he was incapabale of playing at anything like 100%. Not long after Roeder had said he wouldn't do that to players iirc. He's contradicted himself on numerous occasions in the last few months though.

I think Roeder's point was more that he wouldn't play a player who wasn't fully recovered from an injury and risk it re-occuring. Whereas with Shola it was a long-running niggle (or so it seemed at the time.) And, in all fairness a) we desperately needed him and b. his record of goals under Roeder was pretty useful.

This is true. But Owen is a 'special case'.

So was Dyer. Because they're bloody good players. No offence to Shola.

Aye, he did well with Dyer and I expect to see him be very cautious about Owen too. Not that that makes Roeder any less of a hypocrite.

Roeder is a muppet that must be clear to all surely?

No less so than 90% of other managers, including Ferguson, Wenger, Mourinho, Allardyce, O'Neill, etc, etc. if we're going on quotes.

I think he's a coach rather than a manager tbh, I see that as his biggest weakness in reference to his current job.

I think he's somewhere in between. I think his man-management and motivational skills are fine, as is his coaching. You'd perhaps raise question marks over his tactics. I think the biggest area for debate is his transfer policy, which we'll have a more definitive answer on (shite? good?) after this summer.

You mean he's not good enough at either? ;)

 I meant better than the average coach but maybe with a few things to work on before his management skills are entirely up to scratch. But that's not to say that he can't improve those. I think he's shown definite potential.

;) How desperate is some of Patrokles' rationalising of stuff Roeder has done. Asking for "one last push" from a player booked in for surgery was fucking moronic, unfair to the player, and pretty irresponsible however you want to look at it.

Not according to Patrokles though.

I suppose some people do go overboard with attacking Roeder, Patrokles is just trying to balance things out.

Unfortunately for him, and indeed NUFC, those attacking him are nearly always right.

Roeder is nowhere near Souness with his moronic and selfish risking of players to save his own worthless hide, which was disgracefull, but on the Shola issue i'm afraid Glenn was taking the piss. The poor lad could barely stand towards the end yet he was sill out on the ptich!

I'm not knocking Shola for wanting to have a go, but the manager should have know better and as people said at the time, they either wouldn't have tried it with a Shearer/Owen or those players would have told them to piss off!

On the Owen issue all they are saying is they're working him hard, and they're doing that within the confines of what he should be doing at this stage in his rehabilitation, so i ahve no problems at all with that. And more pleasing is the mentions that they have also been working on his hamstrings at the same time to try and get him right back to his very best.

The work with Dyer has seemingly been excellent, because freak injuries aside (getting hit in the eye and cutting his leg open!) he seems to be getting through games without some muscle or other going at any given time!

I hope it doesnt happen but every time i watch Dyer play i expect him to pull up with some kind of injury,it seems to happen a lot to players who come back from a serious injury or a long lay off......fingers crossed for Owen

The thing with Shola is that his abilites and right to a place in the squad, let alone team, are often criticised. For once in his career he was the main striker, and even MattM4 would agree he was doing a fairly decent job of it. You can't blame him for wanting to play on.
