Bombadil 0
Imagine if Big Al does take over as Manager at some point, and we get relegated. Will they take it down? Seems a bit soon. tbh Got the goalscoring celebration right. Could use it to cast a mould if it's just in some Baghdad scrap yard somewhere. Lazarus 0
ive said this before but i think the club should do a hollywood style 'walk of fame' type thing with famous former players getting a star. a statue is a bit much tbh.

Nobby 0
wouldnt bother unless it was of him painting his fence ( like when he celebrated the blackburn title win). Not wanting to second guess him, but i'd think Shearer would think the same to be honest. Maybe he doesn't have to be dead, but certainly later on down the line when he's maybe had a crack at management, and hopefully succeeded and retired completely from football for good and still a few years after that. Noelie 103
Although I like and greatly admire Shearer, and he has been a great asset to Newcastle, I think perhaps a statue may be a little over the top unless it's in the distant future. There's are differences between wor Jackie and wor Alan that should be looked at before another statue to a player is set in motion. Basically wor Jackie was a one-club man and came to us from the pits, whereas wor Alan came to us via Southampton and Blackburn and cost us a pretty penny in doing so. Of course Alan beat Jackie's goal scoring record but if you take into consideration the number of goals he scored from the penalty spot and not the open field you may find that Jackie was perhaps the better goal-scorer. In 50 years time will the name Shearer have the same clout as Milburn does today? I'd like to think so even though I won't be around.
peasepud 59
I also feel its far too early and am starting to get embaressed by the over the top Shearer stuff that comes from the club. Naming a bar after him while he was still playing was daft but what really gets me goat is the clubs website, hes still there in banners, side pics and generally dotted around where current players are. This doesnt help the club move on and take things forward it appears like we'll always be stuck in the past where big Al's concerned.
tinofbeans 91
wonder what the man himself thinks. if i were him i'd be embarrased at having a bar named after me, and as for a statue.... no way. reckon one of milburn is definitely right. Gemmill 44425
Have you heard the craic for the statue though? Apparently it's going to be Milburn passing the ball to Shearer to signify the passing of Geordie Legend status from one to the other. Remaking the Dodi and Di one with Milburn and Shearer's head on it would be less cringeworthy.

Reminds me of that Gary Lineker and Willy Thorn 'best of friends' thing that Fantasy Football used to do. Why do the Toon always insist on a cringe factor?
