Valentines day

It's know it's all commercial shite, but its only one day and your only buying for one person so its not all bad. ;) I guess it all depends on the couple's tastes, but certainly it seems the majority like to make a night of it. ;)

Anyhoo, swiftly moving on! I'm trying to be a little creative this time around and have put together a CD, amongst other little gifts.

Here's my track list so far. :D

Bill Medley & Jennifer Warnes - (I've Had) the Time of My Life

Chris de Burgh - Lady in Red

Joe Cocker - You Are So Beautiful

Lionel Richie And Diana Ross - Endless Love

Phil Collins - A Groovy Kind of Love

Aerosmith - I Don't Want to Miss a Thing

Bryan Adams - Please Forgive Me

Bruce Springsteen - Secret Garden

Robbie Williams - Feel

Elton John - Your Song

Eric Clapton (Cream) - Wonderful Tonight

:D

I think I've done pretty well, but would like to add more to it so was wondering if you lot have perhaps a song in mind I've missed out that should be there? I have missed out songs like Unchained Melody by the Righteous Brothers & Between The Sheets by the Isley Brothers as, well.....they are a bit too soppy for our tastes. <_<

Do you/your lass actually like all of those songs or are you just going for the classic/clichéd love songs?

There's two or three songs on there that I know she loves, but I guess as far as the rest go I'm just going for the classic love songs...but I can't go wrong there, right?

At the risk of sounding like a Marxist. Valentines day is emotional exploitation by Capitalism.

Make a day in which people feel that they have to declare their love. If they don't there'll be hell on. "You didn't buy me flowers/chocolate/a present/take me out for a meal" etc. "You didn't even get me a card."

So people are caught into "I have to do something" and fork out inflated prices on these things, whilst the Capitalist card makers, restuaranteurs etc are all rubbing their hands raking it in.

I'm not exactly the right person to be dispensing romantic advice like, but do people really need a designated day to show how much they love someone?

I've always thought that being spontaneous was a part of romance, but how can a designated day in which millions of other people around the world are doing similar things be spontaneous?

Its just a cynical Capitalist ploy to use one of the strongest human emotions to get people to part with their money.

By all means be romantic, go out for a romantic meal, buy flowers, presents etc and tell someone that you love them, but you don't need a specificly designated day to do that stuff.

Say bollocks to Valentines day, and plan to do that stuff on a day of your own choosing instead.

Personally can't stand any of the above, but then that's just my opinion <_<

Why don't you have a look on Amazon at all the compilation lovey-dovey CD's and see if there are any tracks that you want to add on? If you want a personal recommondation for something then I think one of the beeyootifullest love songs ever is "She" by Elvis Costello.

I can understand the whole love theme but surely it'll be better to not give her a terrible CD? Fair enough, put on the two or three that she loves (and any others that you think are actually good from that list) but there are plenty of love songs available - there's no need to pick all the crap, overused ones. You probably know what her taste in music is like, put on some songs that she likes listening to and then stick on some she might not know too well that you like. It doesn't have to be cheesy to be a love song. Add a personal touch, I dare you!

She loves the 1st song, more so because of the film. I used my initiative on the last three :D<_<

Will have a browse as recommended ;) .... but 'She' as mentioned, we'll keep that in mind when we're in our 60's :D

C'mon then, what love songs would you recommend that aren't overused, as you said there was plenty of other love songs available? ;) The songs I picked are classics that I like that I know she will too, but the idea of just songs, whether its a love song or not is a good one so I'll keep that in mind. <_<

Working on a playlist myself. Not for a CD as she did me one for xmas and I don't want to seem like I'm nicking her idea. 57 songs on it so far. <_<

Try these:

Paolo Nutini - Loving You

Damien Rice - The Blower's Daughter

Eagle Eye Cherry - Falling In Love Again

Sixpence None The Richer - Kiss Me

I also included Enrique Iglesias - Hero as it's pretty much our song. I won't be singing it this time though. ;)
