Newcastle manager Glenn Roeder last night confirmed his interest in Celtic striker Kenny Miller.

The United boss admitted he had been warned off making a firm offer for Scotland star Miller during January.

But with Roeder insisting his summer transfer targets will include those he pursued last month, a summer bid for Miller is a possibility.

And the 27-year-old's struggle to hold down a starting place at Parkhead could make a move to Tyneside tempting.

"Miller was a player who was one of several I looked at during January," Roeder revealed.

"But I got the impression that making a serious enquiry would be a waste of time; that it would be a worthless phone call.

"He was one of three or four strikers who I was working through though."

Miller, 27, only joined Celtic last summer on a free transfer from Wolves.

But although he starred in the Bhoys' march to the knock-out stages of the Champions League and is first-choice in the Scotland side, his Scottish League form has been patchy at best.

That has seen the likes of Craig Beattie and Derek Riordan leap- frog him in the pecking order.

This is why he struggles in the transfer market ffs! Well I would like him but to be honest he might not be available so I wont enquire! <_<

What makes it worse is he isn't even any good!

Good to see we're setting our sights high. ;)

not a "trophy" player, so people should be happy

Would you be happy with his signing, Leazes?

You honestly think he'll answer that without mentioning 5th best etc?

I was expecting something along the lines of "a good chairman will back his manager with whoever he wants" <_<

The chairman doesnt decide who is bought. Or sold. Bobby Robson is a just a lying old twat when he claims Freddie would do that. Leazes was there when Freddie didnt do it. <_<

I always thought Miller was alright. Bellamy was rated less highly when we signed him from Coventry.

The difference is Bellamy was 22 and full of potential while Miller is 27 and should be peaking soon.

If this is Roeder's idea of planning then I'm glad he usually doesn't bother.

ah, but its a "plan". And so long as its a "plan" <_< thats the main thing, as we never "plan" like every other club does ;) The "plan" brings guaranteed success, as every other club in the world bar us has been more successful than us because they have a "plan"

I don't think you're quite getting the hang of this whole "plan" thing. A plan is only beneficial if it is a good, well thought out plan usually coming from the top such as those of Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool or Bolton. If you want bad plans then look at Leeds, Charlton, West Ham or Middleborough. For no plan see us, and where has our lack of planning got us in the last three years?
