Papa Lazaru 0
And i admit thats how i think. Theres nothing about dance music i don't get because theres nothing you couldn't understand about it, i just don't get how a sane, sober person not on drugs can enjoy listening to it. 22068 Because people like it= a matter of taste. I am sane, sober (usually) and have a fairly sizeable pile of CDs (such as the aforementioned Chemical Brothers, Daft Punk, Prodigy, Fatboy Slim's earlier albums, Air and a good few Ministry of Sound albums before they started filling them with every chart release they could find). I also have about 100-150 12" house released, some on the prog side of that genre, but mainly French and funk-inspired house. I'm also a fan of the soul styles and hammond-and-bass-driven funk that proved as an inspiration for the earliest forms of house and remained close every since. Now, you've met me enough to know I am not a pill-popping 'propa radgie'. So unless I am, your supposition must be incorrect. 22071 Thats what i actually mean, you're not the first intelligent, sane, sober person who i've met that listens to this stuff. I don't mean there isn't any sane people listening to it, the thing i don't get is why there is! Its like somebody intelligent who seems to have a good taste in/knowledge of various things turn and tell you they love waching Eastenders or something, it just doesn't fit with the impression you had of them. Obviously its because of quite how much i despise this music that i am usually shocked that people like it when i think they wouldn't.

Matt 0
I'd say I like a bit of everything, but Drum 'n' Bass? WTF is all that about then? 22093 Drum and Bass is a funny one. I can listen to it and really enjoy it, but after about 20 minutes I can't take any more and have to put something else on.
Brock Manson 0
Trance. It isn't music. The shit Giles Peterson plays on Radio 1. It's just noise, not music at all, why do they waste airspace with it? Drum&Bass. More noise that isn't pleasant to hear, just tripe. I also can't understand how some bands who clearly can't sing are liked by so many people. Libertines, Razorlight (someone get him some lemsip), The Thrills, Ash etc. All these remixes of old songs by various DJ's who you never hear of again really piss me off. That Sunset Strippers song...why subject me to it? Finally what the hell is wrong with the song from the citroen ad? WHAT THE FUCK IS IT?
TheInspiration 1
Pretty much all those indie bands, or "garage rock" are dull, overrated, unoriginal crap. There's so much more interesting music - why settle for mediocrity?
sammynb 3342
Nirvana Pearl Jam do it TEN times better 21702 Chops what are you talking about???? Pearl Jam, the original Pop Stars grunge band! I remember at the time this article on how they were going to be so great because some A&R guy had assembled them from all these musicans that they auditioned and thinking nooooooooooooooooooooooo. And now for music I can't understand... Any sort of Dance - How can people 'listen' to this. I mean I can understand dancing to it when you're in a club but listen to it? 21828 Goes for me too. If people are on a night out in a club and either pissed or off their heads on drugs i'm sure there is some appeal/purpose to dance music. But i cannot ever understand how anybody could listen at home to that stuff when stone cold sober! And i'm well aware that "dance" is a term that covers a whole range of sub genres which are often nothing like each other, but i find them all shite, just to varying degrees of how offensively bad they are. Whats worse is how little talent some of it requires, press a few buttons, repeat stuff a load of others have doen in that genre begore and write lyrics a 5 year old could manage. And for the ones often in the charts theres always the option of taking an old/older song and ruining it by turning it into a shitty dance track. 21848 If you're chucking the likes of The Chemical Brothers and Daft Punk into that press a few buttons and 5 year olds lyrics you're totally ignorant tbh. 21891 And this coming from someone that thinks Sigur Ros is "Pretentious bollocks." Jazz too. Bunch of arseholes playing random notes for half an hour at a time I thought. But Benny Goodman and Jimmy Smith are great. Still can't see why people like Miles Davis though. 21901 WTF? If you've only heard his later "electro" recordings fair enough but get yourself a copy of A Kind of Blue and while you're at it buy Juju by Wayne Shorter, Empyrean Isles by Herbie Hancock and Strings by Charlie Parker and then you may get it. Pretty much all those indie bands, or "garage rock" are dull, overrated, unoriginal crap. There's so much more interesting music - why settle for mediocrity? 22179 Ok it is all about personal opinion but this is the most pro Bob Seger load of rubbish I've had to read here today! Garage rock dates back to the 60s and includes bands like the Turtles, 13th floor elevators, The electric prunes! Are they the bands you are talking about? No didn't think so! If you enjoy your Gloria Estefan or Mariah Carey collection great but as for your question "why settle for mediocrity? Well you listen to Metallica and we read your posts and we all suppor the toon! Says it all really. Edited August 30, 2005 by sammynb

luckyluke 2
I don't understand the appeal of the Kaiser Chiefs. But as mentioned in the first post by sammynb, i'd seperated dance from other electronic music myself as some of those people mentioned do more than just use computers! And: I don't think anyone musically intelligent can say that Kraftwerk, Bjork, Massive Attack and New Order are shit. I think you'd have to be completely ignorant. Shit Dance is far more widespread than shit Rock. But I think good dance is far more difficult to produce than good rock I never said any of those bands are shit, New Order certainly aren't, they are however musicians who play instruments as well. The other three i wouldn't listen to as i don't like their music, but as of yet i haven't heard enough Kraftwerk or Massive attack to pass judgement and Bjork whilst i wouldn't listen to her music if i was paid, isn't what i'd call shite at all. We'll just have to disagreethat good dance is harder to create than good rock. Anyway as with all music arguments its all opinion on whether something is shite or not and i will quite happilly go on saying dance music is shite (and only to be tolertated when off your tits on drugs or alcohol) as it would be dull if we all agreed on the subject!
