Park Life 71
http://www.guardian.co.uk/frontpage/story/0,,2008231,00.html "Earlier Hair, speaking in Nairobi after standing in the ICC World Cricket League Division One final between Kenya and Scotland, stated: "I can confirm that I have instructed my lawyers to issue an application to the London Central Employment Tribunal alleging racial discrimination by the International Cricket Council and the Pakistan Cricket Board. Therefore it is inappropriate for me to make further comment given that this matter has yet to be determined by the tribunal." This has got some mileage mark my words. manc-mag 1
Where's the evidence of the discrimination (if any) being racial?
Guest alex
I think his case is based on the other umpire in the test fully supporting Hair at the time but still being allowed to continue umpiring in test etc. Wasn't the other guy Asian btw? I think Hair's letter asking for all that money if he resigned may be his undoing. ARS TBH.

"It is crass for him to say a black West Indian [billy Doctrove, the other umpire at The Oval] was let off and he was a white man and therefore he was charged. "Mr Hair was the senior umpire and he literally took over that Oval cricket match. I was present there. There was only man that evening that did not want cricket to be played. [It was] a black spot on the history of cricket thanks to Mr Hair." Poor turn of phrase in the second paragraph Load of shite iywmho. They might not have had valid grounds to stop using him but you can bet your life that that decision was taken on the basis of his personality rather than his ethnicity. Agree about the money pay off issue too.
Guest alex
I thought the other Umpire was Aleem Dar (sp?) for some reason.

Aye, it came from Bob Woolmer iirc (how surprising) and he still hasn't produced the long-awaited findings of the report he was meant to have commissioned has he?
