No, but I thought you had claim the money back from the court rather than your employer or your employer paid you, then had to do this (not sure tbh).

does he mean letters getting him off duty?

From who??

you employer can write one any time and get you off once - but they have files and eventually you 'll have to serve

and to be honest you SHOULD serve - I found it very very interesting

At our place you just get the day off I think.

you can claim a daily allwoance from the Court - but its not a lot compared to what a lot of people earn

A couple of weeks is OK but no-one wants to be in one of these three year financial trials

Worth checking out like. I used to work (indirectly) in payroll, i.e. in the dept. but not actually paying people myself. I seem to remember either the employee or the employer (possibly dependent upon your employer) has to claim for loss of earnings.

I'd love a blast at it tbh. Few days off work and that. In fact I've already picked out a verdict ready for the whole thing.

;)

Have you seen that episode of peep show where Jeremy's doing jury duty for that Gerodie lass's trial?

I did jury service for 2 weeks last summer and have to admit it is well worth doing.

I had to put it off the first time round as my daughter was born slap bang in the middle of the 2 weeks they had told me I had to do. You can only put it off once and you have to do it. I never claimed a penny off the court anyways as my employer payed me full pay whilst I was there anyway and said they would continue to do so if my trial went over the 2 weeks mandatory time (There was me trying to get on the jury for a 6 month customs trial  )

From what I remember being told by other jurors at the time you can claim back loss of earnings from the sourt but as wages are generally quite high these days it doesnt cover it all. Oh and they also give everyone £5 a day to spend in the canteen ;) which I never spent as there was a pub over the road from the court so I went in there for a few swift pints at lunchtime with a bit of pub grub

I did the same and found I was in the bar with one of the accused and his mates - scarpered quick

and one lass was really late back as she'd gone shopping for some shoes - the Judge fined her £ 250 on the spot.............

That would have been £500 and contempt of court for Gemmill if you'd seen his taste in shoes.

Egg-fucking-scuse me, Box, but after those tan brothel-creeper-winkle-picker-brogues that you turned up to the last piss up in, you lost all rights to mock my shoes. Those were straight out of Edmund Blackadder's wardrobe.

What exactly was he was accused of such that he was allowed to pop over to the pub with his mate for lunch?

He was just remanded on bail rather than remanded in custody by the sounds of it. Lots of trials the defendant isnt in custody.
