Super_Steve_Howey 0
pretty sure something under my gum has died think it's a long shot but is there any treatment without anti-biotics? Not been registered with a quack or driller killer for years..
Gemmill 47706
Someone asked this not long ago I think. Gargling with salt water was one option iirc.
Dr Kenneth Noisewater 0
If I was you I'd take paracetamol, gargle with oraldene and seek the help of a hospital dentist.
Lazarus 0
youve got to see a dentist. if youve got an abcess then the tooth has probably died or is dying. but thats a good thing as when he pulls it - it wont hurt.
Gemmill 47706
My mate had one once and one side of his face swelled up like you wouldn't fucking believe. Looked like he was hiding a basketball in his cheek. So Super_Steve_Howey....are you Jay Jay Sea on NO?
Super_Steve_Howey 0
pretty sure it's food under the gum, usually starts after popcorn and goes away. This bastard is persisting though Trying some Seabrooks cream cheese and chives with tea, so that's sort of gargling with salt water

IrishMag 0
I thought I had an abcess recently, gum swelled up like fcuk, trip to the doctor, told to take nurofen and anti biotics, gone since. turned out it was a gum infection caused by a wisdom tooth or something

catmag 337
If it's a proper abcess you need metronidazole antibiotics, the tooth cleaning with an antiseptic jetwash thing and an antiseptic mouthwash (you can buy Corsodyl over the counter but the a/b needs prescibing) The salt water remedies are more for mouth ulcers than abcesses. You definitely need to go to the dentist. I was in exactly the same position a few months ago and it was awful.
Steve 0
It is clear by this thread that the stereotype of the English not visiting dentists is accurate. For fuck's sake man, surely an abscess that is causing that much grief would get you in. Do your teeth look like this by chance?

And just to answer back to something in another thread, I am neither a martyr to my profession nor am I ever apathetic in my work. I'm very proud of what I do, I'm good at what I do and always do it to the best of my ability. There are certainly nurses who are apathetic, and god knows, I work with some of them but to make a blanket statement about all nurses/teachers etc is just ignorant and bloody unfair.
