My mate had one once and one side of his face swelled up like you wouldn't fucking believe. Looked like he was hiding a basketball in his cheek.

Ditto. My mate got his the day before we went on holiday. He looked like the elephant man and couldn't drink. He had a class time :o

Couldn't believe it when I went round his house like. He'd said his face was a bit swollen, but when he opened the door he was fucking grotesque - like something off a horror. I nearly pissed meself.

I thought I had an abcess recently, gum swelled up like fcuk, trip to the doctor, told to take nurofen and anti biotics, gone since. turned out it was a gum infection caused by a wisdom tooth or something :o

I got told an abces was a gum infection? Anyway, pretty sure it's not the tooth. Resigned to being fleeced to get a note to get some pills

If it's a proper abcess you need metronidazole antibiotics, the tooth cleaning with an antiseptic jetwash thing and an antiseptic mouthwash (you can buy Corsodyl over the counter but the a/b needs prescibing) The salt water remedies are more for mouth ulcers than abcesses. You definitely need to go to the dentist. I was in exactly the same position a few months ago and it was awful. :o

It is clear by this thread that the stereotype of the English not visiting dentists is accurate. For fuck's sake man, surely an abscess that is causing that much grief would get you in.

Do your teeth look like this by chance?

Well thank you. And just to answer back to something in another thread, I am neither a martyr to my profession nor am I ever apathetic in my work. I'm very proud of what I do, I'm good at what I do and always do it to the best of my ability. There are certainly nurses who are apathetic, and god knows, I work with some of them but to make a blanket statement about all nurses/teachers etc is just ignorant and bloody unfair.
