khay 10
Sky Sports News understands that Charlton Athletic have rejected an £18million bid from West Ham for Darren Bent. The Addicks insisted on Monday that they would not be selling the England international, whilst Hammers boss Alan Curbishley had also stated he would not be returning to his former club for the striker. However the Upton Park club have now tabled a huge bid for Bent, which has in turn been rejected by their London rivals. The two clubs are currently engaged in a relegation dogfight and Addicks boss Alan Pardew would see his plans for survival thrown into disarray if his top scorer were sold. Charlton had looked ready to cash in on Bent earlier in January after the striker sustained a knee injury, alerting the likes of Tottenham and Newcastle to his availability, but a quicker than anticipated recovery has made him an invaluable asset once more. With the transfer deadline expiring on Wednesday night, it remains to be seen whether The Hammers will table an improved offer for the international forward. Matt 0
West Ham are stupid to offer that much and Charlton likewise for turning it down.
Gemmill 46961
Let's see if they can hold out til the end of tomorrow. If you were a Charlton fan you would be fucking fuming if they sold your best striker to another team battling relegation on the last day of the window. If West Ham had come in on January 1st, they might have had a chance by giving Charlton time to spend the cash, but they would be mental to sell him now. Options: 1. Sell him now for £18m and almost certainly go down. 2. Sell him in the summer for £12m, having survived relegation and then pick up an extra £20m in TV money next season. It's a gamble cos they could and maybe will go down anyway, but even if they did he's still a saleable asset. They'd be mad to sell now given what's at stake. Scottish Mag 3
Now Curbishley has money to spend, he really does not have a clue what hes doing with it? Quashie, Davenport, Neill, Boa Morte 6 million bid for Upson, 2.5 for Hreidersson and now 18 million on Bent...crazy!
Craig 6700
£18m for Darren Bent?? and they said no??? :D
Nate 0
£18m Chartlon are almost certainties for relegation anyway, i can't quite believe they've rejected it. They'll be lucky to get a third of that (what he's actually worth) once they've gone down.
Baggio 0
Fair play to Charlton, they'll still get a fair bit for him in the summer even if they do go down.
Dr Gloom 22457
with half a season to go and only one day before thew window shuts, a team fighting for their lives are hardly going to sell their best striker.
Baggio 0
Charlton chairman denied any cash offer had been made although he did admit West Ham had enquired.

Bombadil 0
£18m, that's just ridiculous. I've said it before, but English players are so massively overhyped and overpriced, it's untrue.

sniffer 0
If Luque is priced at 10 mill, Viana 8.5mill, Boumsong 8 mill, marcelhino 6 mill, Bassedas 4 mill ...as sorry a bunch of losers as ever walked on a pitch......then Bent is worth 15 mill at least. He won't need the mandatory 2 years to settle in and adjust to the pace that the foreigners usually need........or at least the ones we buy. adios 717
If players who weren't worth the money we payed for them, are worth the money they weren't worth, then Bent is worth the ridiculous money that Charlton aren't willing to accept for him. This is good stuff!
