Scottish Mag 3
We need a big powerful CB anyone seen him play much? Aye, I've seen every one of his 17 caps for the US. The kid's a beast. He's 6'2" 180 lbs. He's got quite a lot of potential and has realized a fair amount of it. 'Gooch' is one of the most popular players currently in the US Squad, having had most of the "chuch norris facts" attributed to him at one point or another. He's famous for 'staring down' Jared Borgetti at a world cup qualifier in 2005. In this region, most teams will kick you when down, pinch you in the ass etc, to get a rise out of you. Gooch looks like the kind of guy they could rile up so they went after him but just got the stare. He's a hell of a player, but I don't want him here. We'd just ruin him. He's SO leaning away from him in that pic, looks like he's bricking it tbh. Gotta look at it in full motion to get the real idea of it, tbh. I'lll see if I can find it on youtube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yk1iJ3ETQ6Y...ted&search= About 3 minutes into it..

Nate 0
Borgetti scored in the first fixture when he was being marked by a different player, then Onyewu marked him out of the second game... i think.
Zathras 296
Borguetti scored in the first game--marked by Onyewu--and was a complete non-factor in the second. The first game was Onyewu's 3rd cap and in the Azteca. As I said in the other thread, better players than he have wilted under the conditions in that stadium. He takes a step away to be fair, but he was moving in that direction before Borgetti squares up to him, and Gooch is in a position to see the referee coming at them. If we showed too much aggression with that referee, he'd have been booked.

As I've said earlier, he's an unproven player with a lot of potential. There are few places where it's harder to play well than the Azteca against Mexico, but I'm not sure he won't encounter one or two of them playing in the Premier League. He has the potential to be a beast, but he's not going to totally organize our defense, and he's not the right player to be pinning our hopes on. I'm rather realistic in my appraisal of American players I believe; there are very few that I would rate as good enough to help out NUFC.

Belgian fans probably have more to gauge him on than I; I've seen all 17 of his international appearances. Some against the likes of Panama and Morocco. Hardly the cream of the Premiership. That being said, he performed well against Italy and I would argue Ghana in the World Cup. His performance against the Czechs was disappointing, but that could be said about the whole team, so it's hard to put much of the blame on a debutant center back.
