The saga of Ronaldo's transfer to Milan looks to be on the brink of completion after the Rossoneri's lawyer confirmed that a deal has been agreed with Real Madrid.

 

The Italian giants have been locked in talks with their Spanish counterparts over the past few days, and appear to have backed down from their original demand to sign the World Cup's all-time top goalscorer on a free transfer.

 

Spanish media reported on Thursday that Milan had made a €6million (£3.95million) offer for the former Internazionale star who has seen his first team standing slump under Fabio Capello.

 

Now Milan's legal department say only the successful completion of a medical, which could take place on Friday, is preventing 'The Phenomenon' from joining Carlo Ancelotti's squad.

 

"With Real all problems have been overcome," stated Milan lawyer Leandro Cantamessa.

 

"Monday or Tuesday could be the day for the definition of the contract.

 

"Everything will depend from the medicals Ronaldo will have with MilanLab and from the evaluations of the Rossoneri's doctors."

 

Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani has also confirmed that a formal bid has been put together for the three-time Fifa World Player of the Year.

 

"We are sending an offer for Ronaldo, we are negotiating. Let's see what happens," Galliani told the club's official website.

 

"Everything, then, will depend on the results of the medical. There are still a lot of things to do."

 

Galliani would not rule out the possibility of the prolific striker being presented to the club's fans during Milan's Coppa Italia game with Roma at Stadio Giuseppe Meazza on Thursday night, stating; "Yes, that's still possible."

 

Ronaldo suffered serious injury problems during his time with city rivals Inter from 1997 to 2002, and will no doubt relish the chance to prove that his star quality is undimmed in Serie A after falling from grace at the Bernabeu.

AC Milan have signed Brazilian striker Ronaldo from Spanish side Real Madrid.

The 30-year-old has joined the Italians on an 18-month deal for an undisclosed fee, after two weeks of negotiations.

 

Milan vice president Adriano Galliani met Real officials on Monday and said: "We have offered seven million euros (£4.6m) and Real want eight (£5.3m)."

 

Ronaldo, who has won two World Cups with Brazil and been named Fifa World Player of the Year three times, has already passed a medical in Milan.

 

Ronaldo had 18 months left on his Real Madrid contract and cost £20m when he joined The Bernabeu outfit from Inter Milan in 2002.

 

Milan coach Carlo Ancelotti told Italy's Radio Anch'io Sport of his excitement at the potential return of the highest goalscorer in World Cup history.

 

Ancelotti said: "He's not particularly fit at the moment because, having been excluded from the Real squad, he has lost some of his enthusiasm in training. But he remains a great player."

 

Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon had made it clear that Ronaldo is on his way out of the club, having barely played under new coach Fabio Capello.

 

Ronaldo has started only three league matches under Italian Capello, who has been focusing on bringing in new blood since taking over in the summer.

 

The former Cruzeiro, PSV Eindhoven, Barcelona and Inter forward had also been linked with AC's Italian rivals Juventus and a move to Al Ittihad in Saudi Arabia.
