Move Frustration For Luque

Newcastle United flop Albert Luque is set to miss out on a move to Villarreal, after the Spanish club agreed a deal for former Magpies striker Jon Dahl Tomasson.

Luque has been hoping to leave St James' Park during the January transfer window after being unable to make an impact under Glenn Roeder.

A loan move to PSV Eindhoven has already collapsed, but he had been lined up for a return to Spain with Villarreal.

However, the Yellow Submarines have now set up a deal to sign Tomasson on loan for the rest of the season from Stuttgart.

Magpies boss Roeder confirmed the deal is in the balance and now expects the £9.5million signing to be at the club for the start of next season.

"Luque's move to Villarreal is now very much in the balance because of the Jon Dahl Tomasson situation," Roeder told the Evening Chronicle.

"In fact, I would say that there has to be a big, big doubt that he will be moving there.

"The deal with PSV Eindhoven has also fallen through and there is no other club on the horizon.

"This being the case it looks as though Albert will be here not only for the rest of this season but also at the start of next season."

Luque has scored just three goals for Newcastle since joining from Deportivo La Coruna 18 months ago and has not started a Premiership game this season.

bad move all round. just get him off the wage bill to whoever will take him. it's obvious we won't get any money for him and he's not going to play for us again so what's the point of keeping him on?

Now that's ironic.

I think that was the plan, but no one wants him.

I've heard that we need to sell before we can sign anyone. Still expect Milner to go...

You also heard we'd be signing a goalkeeper.
