Why are the Greeks gay then? Is it just because of references in early classical literature and it's stuck?

Greek style sex is up the Gary Glitter (Toonraider told me  ). But aye, it relates to classical literature. Not that I've read any.

Is toonraider always taking it up the shitter like?

I've read plenty of the classics and the last thing I want to imagine when I do is Rick Parfitt dishing out brown wings to all and sundry.

Depends what you're after. Iliad is blood and gore, multiple heroes, epic battles (basically one big epic battle). Odyssey is the epic voyage of one man. More touching than the Iliad. Iliad has more implicit gay sex. The Aeneid's Dido/Aeneas sub-plot is pretty good.

"OK, sorry I asked"

"No problem, it's about the epic voyage of one man."

'Which of these should I read?'

'What do you like?'

'I like reading about big fights and spears through heads, as opposed, to say, the voyage of an ageing hero to reclaim his home.'

'Well, then!'

Neither are particularly worth reading, if that helps. :icon_lol:

I already knew what they were about though. The hint was when I made that clear several posts ago. I don't only read one type of book tbh. Not sure what your point is really but I wanted to know which was the better read. Glad that one's cleared up.

Easy, tiger. They're just both a very similar quality and style, so from my point of view it was simply a case of which had the subject matter more of interest to you. I SHAN'T BOTHER NEXT TIME. :D

Not yet mate. I've got loads to read but I intend to get it (you can all 4 in one now) as I'm reading loads at the minute. I will though as it reminded me when you mentioned them before that I'd been intending to read some Updike. What's Middlesex like btw? (You can include references to the content if you like <_< ). The Virgin Suicides was really good.

I haven't actually read middlesex. The story didn't appeal to me. :D Possibly there was a case too of being reluctant to read anything more by Eugenides, especially since it had mixed reviews. The same applied to Dave Eggers. I really liked A Heartbreaking Work... but ... Velocity may have been a subsequent let-down. Maybe a slightly peculiar stance.

I really enjoyed Middlesex, but it was a right hard slog at times. I can understand the mixed reviews, I'm the only one of my friends who managed to finish the thing.

You did well to avoid ...Velocity, it has belatedly <fanboystrop>RUINED</fanboystrop> my enjoyment of his debut.

Have you read Adrift in a Vanishing City by Vincent Czyz? You might like that.

The old man feared him and obeyed. Not a word he spoke, but went by the shore of the sounding sea and prayed apart to King Apollo whom lovely Leto had borne. "Hear me," he cried, "O god of the silver bow, that protectest Chryse and holy Cilla and rulest Tenedos with thy might, hear me oh thou of Sminthe. If I have ever decked your temple with garlands, or burned your thigh-bones in fat of bulls or goats, grant my prayer, and let your arrows avenge these my tears upon the Danaans."

WTF <_<
