luckyluke 2
Speaking of racism, has anyone seen the front page of the Sun today? Fuck me.... Trying to get a message across but as usual the sun does it uber cack-handed. The Sun choosing to speak out against racism, by, erm, being incredibly racist. zico martin 89
Yes we can all learn a lot about tolerance, respect and equality from gracious winner Shilpa tbh. Like not dating outside of our caste system for one. Yeah yeah zzzzzzzzZzZzzzzZzzZZZ joke tbh. Good point. One of the most prejudiced countries in the world being up in arms about a few comments made. The ironing. you think people were wrong to be offended? i agree the scenes in india did seem a little over the top / contrived but as a 'white' man i was offended by the behaviour of some of those in the house tbh
Meenzer 15550
Still, never mind - at least the same edition of the Sun was reporting on serious news stories alongside the sensationalist front page headlines. http://www.thesun.co.uk/article/0,,4-2007040776,00.html

And my point simply referred to the fact that (according to various media sources) we're now supposed to be holding Shilpa up as some sort of figure of enlightenment and 'how we should behave' towards others. The irony in this is that (as Alex pointed out) the entrenched and acceptable view within majority Hindu Indian society is that certain people are better than others by their very birth. There is a massive sub strata that society is actually supposed not to have any physical contact with by dint of their 'low birth' (dhalits/'the untouchables') and if you do then you are supposed to wash yourself afterwards. Personally I think those views are reprehensible (much worse than Jade's 'Shilpa Poppadum') and consequently I won't be lectured to on inclusiveness and harmony by a bunch of Indian politicians who uphold those fucked up values. They can shove it up their arses.

A country where marrying someone from another caste is viewed as pretty unacceptable.
