Celebrity Big Brother

To be fair this is EXACTLY what big brother was about from the start. Getting a group of people from different backgrounds togather in a confined space and watching the fallout. We are all ignorant to some degree (except maybe Stephen Fry) and Big Brother has always highlighted this. Saying Jade should be culled is somewhat ignorant of the fact that she's had a terrible upbringing from a drug addled mother and probably had other things to worry about than developing an understanding of Indian culture. She's uneducated, but in no way vindictively racist.

The show and the furore around it will perhaps make many people who'd normally use the same language/make the same generalisations reconsider and curtail what they didn't previously feel might cause offense. And the popularity guarantees a return series rather than signalling the end.

Last years Big Brother had FAR more outright bullying. As far as I can tell this has all been behind her back which just amounts to bitching rather than bullying.

 Couldn't have said it better myself.

There are hundreds of thousands like Jade out there in Britain do they all have this bad background 'get out of jail' defence?? No excuse. Let the culling begin.

Teddy Sheringham's bird apparently wanted for nothing when she was growing up. I think she should be far more ashamed than Jade since she seems to have had the opportunity and support to get an education but was more interested in shoes.

For whatever reason though, she's just as ignorant due to a lack of education.

I don't think it is just education but agree that is a factor. I think 'people' know what they are doing and they 'know' how they should behave, but choose to for whatever reason to carry on like these three.

The race thing is difficult because sometimes it isn't a conscious choice, but often a generalised aggression and they can't admit to themselves that they 'just don't like people of a different colour or culture. In effect they aren't self-actualised enough to understand their own motivations (perhaps distracted as you say by shoes). But in 2007 I really don't have time for this. The SHOULD know better.

So in 2007 you're not allowed to dislike someone of colour because if you do you're racist?

I'm not advocating the way they appear to be ganging up on Shilpa, but I don't believe that Jade as acting the way she is because of the colour of Shilpas skin. She genuinely doesn't like the woman. Had she carried on against Jo like that then no-one would have said a word, but because it's against someone of colour then she's a racist?

I wouldn't pick out Jade, but all three have shown excessive, irrational and snidey behaviour against Shilpa partly because she is Indian and brown. Of course you can dislike black people but it shouldn't be primarily cause they are black or from a different culture. Shilpa irritates me, but I realise she is a Bollywood film star and used to the life of riley and is going to have the concurrent character defects...I don't sneak off with me mates in the pub and mimick 'Paki' accents and go on about "them eating with their hands"...."I don't know where their hands have been"..type of covert racism. Make no mistake that is what it is and if Ch4 can scrath the surface further and put some more pressure...One of these three bitches will crack...And then we will see 'IT'.

That lass who chucked water in the old wifey's face last year was exactly the same as these 3. Intimidated by someone with better intelligence, class and looks. They're overcompensating for their own inadequacies. Notice Kenny Everet's bird hasn't been involved. She's far too self assured.

Nowt whatsoever to do with race.

Partly agree it's not wholly race and driven also by the factors you mention. It is still ugly and embarrassing and when I see it I mentally reach for the cold assurance of the Glock automatic. I would love to inhanit Shilpa's body for one day in that house. I would take those bitches down and no mistake.

You'd be too busy playing with your (her) tits.

.........there would still be time for some 'taking down'. Hopefully.

Maybe next time put a 'savvy British Asian' in from East London and see how this kind of scum deal with it.

Sunita Sharma was in the house with Jade in BB3. Jade had no problem with her and they got on well.

TBH

That's your opinion. I'm of the opinion that they act this way because they think Shilpa believes she's better than them.

To be fair though, Shilpa has taken the piss out of Jades accent too, maybe not to the same extent and she didn't have anyone else joining in, but it was done nonetheless. As for the "eating with their hands", Jo didn't like the way Shilpa touches the food on other peoples plates which is a fair point imo.

Mind, she only had a week to have a problem with her.

That is partly my point. Probably not so easy to victimise. Jade is scum and hides behing this vaguely well meaning ', slightly 'look I'm just confused and harmless veil - always acting out' never internalising veil. I don't fall for it.

To Jermaine..."Are you black?" "Do your bleach your teeth"?

Look at the mother ffs!! That is Jade in 20 years. She finds her embarrasing cause she see's herself.

No they act like that cause thier life experience has taught them they can get away with it. If it wasn't he fingers or the chicken it would be something else. As I say this is dispalcement aggression, but IMO the core motivation is race/culture. She IS BETTER than them and they know it.

Btw, the people who buy/read the Jade/Kerry Katona/Jordan/Chantelle (yes Chantelle! ) autobiographies really make my question my faith in humanity.

So far Jade has had nowt but adoration from people in this country for being criminally stupid. Racist or not, I'm glad she's about to get a fucking big slice of grief. Yin. Yang. Kiss my wang.

Wouldn't surprise me if that's Endemol's rationale behind it all. Kill the idol they've built up (and who's ended up overshadowing their franchise in the UK).

people confusing plain ignorance for racism is as big a crime if you ask me

You really believe they don't realise their comments are hurtful. You can't be ignorant these days about race...."Oh I didn't realise you were a Paki mate...You look Spanish"....

I agree with HP to an extent this isn't out and out racism, but soft racism cause they can't internalise their emotive response to the situation and some of Shipla's behaviour. IGNORANCE is no longer a defence in 2007. The fuckwits are even sadder cause they are revealing on national television their bonding rituals that go on every week down the local.
