Having recently acquired ye old Sky+ now I've decided I'm in the market for a DVD Recorder, so obviously all the stuff I tape on there can be transfered to either me laptop or just if I want to ever watch them again without taking up the space on the Sky+. Anyone have any recommendations?

I've been looking at hard drive recorder type things recently, I've got so much stuff taking up space on video that could be converted into a wallet's worth of DVDs. Something with decent editing capabilities is important, hence the need for a HD. Probably just be a skinflint as usual and wait until they come down even further in price though...

 I concur.

Shut it. I can't be good at everything you know. I've had to sacrifice some of my technical brains for my beauty

I would stay clear of JVC ones. The one I have is shite. It's very choosy about which DVD's it will play and seems to fuck up quite often when I just set something away recording and the disk gets full.

I would also suggest you are better off with one that takes + dvd's. Mine takes - ones which seem much more difficult to get (especially if your trying to get cheap ones).

Don't go for the Panasonic DMR range that takes the DVD-RAM disc's,mine won't even reconise the disc's anymore, also heard a lot on other forum's about this problem aswell, must be the lazer.

Probably a Lite-on DVD-R with H/D is the best bet

Just got an LG DR175, £99.99 from Currys/Dixons.

Does divx and comes in a lovely black. Couldn't tell you how good the other functions are, as i've not used it, but i've read good things on AVforums.

I've had a Lite-on which was garbage and I've now got a Panasonic DMRES 15 (which I think is the same as the one in Tom's photo) which is excellent.

Couple of cheapys on here, fancy one myself so to all the nerds out there what are the basics it must have?

TIA

Ability to record on varying formats and Divx/xvid playback are must-haves.
