I may or may not have purchased a 32gb white ipad 2.

Well I may or may not have purchased a black one :uhoh:

I actually discovered that it had arrived today about 10 mins before I had to leave for work <_<

Oh congratulations and comiserations

On the plus side, I'm finished work at 8am and not back til next Wednesday night. Plus the bairn is at nursery all day today so I get to play with my beeyootiful new toy ;)

Nice ! Did you get a Smart cover too ? They are really handy ! Protects the screen and folds up as a stand, awesome !

Yeah, I've ordered a Smart cover but it's not here yet. I've only had 3 hours kip today because of the bloody iPad but I love it :D

Cos the bairn will soon be mobile and grabbing at wires etc, am getting rid of my speakers/amp/cd etc to replace household sound system with an ipod/cd/radio set up. It has to have the best sound possible but needs to be compact neat and out of reach. Am looking at the Geneva Sound Model M and the Bose wave music station. Not sure.

I liked this one when i seen it.

i thought the sound from the Bose one wasn't worth the cash when i was looking at it in the bose shop overhere...was in at the time to take back a pair of headphones that were shite for the money and all, those Geneva docks are supposed to be great as well though.

Cheers for that Ant, i've heard/read lots of mixed opinions on the Bose's sound so am not going to do anything till i've been to listen to them both. Am going to visit a re-seller to listen to the Geneva one on friday morning and the Bose shop.

Also came across the Arcam R-cube which has got lots of great reviews, 90w output which is just a bit short of the Geneva one. No CD player though.

Try and demo one of these Chez. Ive got the older model without iPod dock.

Quite literally blows the (overpriced) Bose out the water .

I'd keep your hi-fi and give the bairn a clip if she goes near it.

On a serious note though, I've got the Roberts one (without the ipod dock) too in the kitchen and it's spot on. You'll have heard it at mine but you probably don't remember.

I've always thought that Bose produce overpriced tat that middle class Sunday times readers with more money than sense buy on a whim when they see ad's on the back of the magazine without comparing to other models that are available at half the price.

That's Chez to a tee tbh. His flat is covered in those collectible 'limited edition' plates.

Best headphones i've had were by Bose (QC 3s). The B&W technology is just a copy of Bose according to various sources / CNET.

Which other models (mp3, cd & radio with roughly 60 - 100 w of output for half the price) were you thinking of? The point of me posting this was to get suggestions from people like you not snarky comments on my alleged reading habits

The Roberts one doesnt have a CD player. I have heard it at alex's and i do recollect it being a warm sound. Am looking for all 3 with a line in preferably.

EDIT - it does have a CD player sorry.

check out the BeoLab 5 speakers as well, look like daleks

I was visiting a flat just before right next to a shop that sells those Geneva sound systems. Had a listen to the L model and I don't think anything on the market will compare to the sound. Literally blown away. Put it up to 70 on the volume and it made the bairn cry.

It's Geneva a re-seller anyway, got a Bose and b&o outlet within 5/10 minute walk from my place so going to listen to what they have to offer before deciding.

As I seem to have touched a nerve i thought I should clarify that my thoughts on Bose in no way reflect my thoughts on Chez.

I just fall into the latter camp on this well recorded dispute....

Discussion of the quality of Bose products can sometimes elicit strong and polarized opinions. There are two major camps: those who see Bose as a maker of high-end market equipment, and others who see Bose as a company that uses marketing to make extravagant claims for otherwise ordinary products.

In some non-audio related publications, Bose has been cited as a producer of "high-end audio" products. Commenting on Bose's "high-end" market positioning among audiophiles (people concerned with the best possible sound), a PC Magazine product reviewer stated "not only is Bose equipment's sound quality not up to audiophile standards, but one could buy something that does meet these stringent requirements for the same price or, often, for less." Bose has not been certified by THX for its home entertainment products.

Their docks don't get a look in at the things like the what Hi-fi awards...

Agree their headphones have been praised though.

Its looking less and less likely to be the Bose dock. The ipod dock isnt even integrated into it anyway. That Geneva Sound thing is amazing but its even more expensive than the B&O dock that Ant posted (Which is not even in stores yet).

  • 2 weeks later...
Link to that site, Hoggy?

I ordered them on the the 30th of April and the arrived on the 10th of May. Need someone to sign for them though. The sizing is a bit odd, 44" is a medium whereas I'd say that was more of a large. But no complaints and it's got me sorted for five a side. Might come in handy later in the year for that Milan top and the Marseille one in the new kits thread. You can pay by Paypal too, which is handy.
