Your toes aren't meant to be separated, they're meant to sit together side-by-side in harmony. Saying that, I hate socks full stop, so the thought of toe socks is just an abomination to me. I hate being barefoot and I hate wearing shoes but I need to have something on my feet. They came with a long list of "benefits" of wearing toe socks. Unsurprisingly, for a company that specialises in them.
