janu 0
You've earned your spurs By Alan Oliver, The Evening Chronicle Glenn Roeder has given a vote of confidence to the full Newcastle United team which won so well at Spurs on Sunday. For he has named an unchanged team for tomorrow night's FA Cup third-round replay with Birmingham City at St James' Park. And Roeder will even have the same substitutes on the bench, including teenagers David Edgar, James Troisi and Andy Carroll. But the United boss hopes to have key midfielders Emre and his skipper Scott Parker back for Saturday's Premiership match with his former club West Ham United at St James' Park. And with Stephen Carr, Celestine Babayaro, Damien Duff and Titus Bramble back in training or ready to return to the fold, Roeder will be given some much-needed breathing space. Roeder does not usually believe in giving away anything to the opposition, but in the circumstances he is happy to let Brum boss Steve Bruce know his team for tomorrow night. The United boss told me today: "There will be no changes for tomorrow tonight and we will have the same personnel on our bench. "But we are hoping to have both Scotty Parker and Emre back by the time West Ham come here on Saturday. "The allegations against Emre of racial abuse have knocked him sideways and he is very upset about them and he is denying them all. "The club are supporting him and standing by him. But this has nothing to do with his absence from the team at the moment. He has a calf strain and once this clears up he will be available and up for selection." In the terms of players injured there is a full team missing tomorrow night, with United probably in the worst situation they have been in all season - and that's saying something. But Roeder added: "Stephen Carr came back with the first-team squad yesterday for the first time since he damaged his foot in the middle of November. "And the likes of Damien Duff, Titus Bramble and Celestine Babayaro should be back with us in the middle of next week." Carr and Babayaro in particular have plenty to prove to the manager and the fans, but nevertheless it will be still a huge plus to United to have them back in the picture with Roeder's side still involved in the FA and UEFA Cup, not to mention their bid to try and get back into Europe next season. Birmingham will travel north for tomorrow's televised replay having had a free weekend after their game with Leeds United was called off because rain left the new re-laid St Andrews pitch waterlogged. This means that Brum's Radhi Jaidi, who was sent off against United, will now miss tomorrow's replay, while on-loan striker Nicklas Bendtner is ruled out with injury. Dr Gloom 22457
nobby and taylor should keep carr and bramble out of the side. we desperately need a new left back because baba will go straight back into the side simply because our only other options are kids playing out of position. David Kelly 1278
Left back is the one position where I think Roeder has to be looking at spending serious money. When all of our players are fit we have Owen, Martins, Shola & Le Sib up front. Numerous midfielders and wingers and plenty of promising Centrebacks. But we have no leftbacks at all who are up to the job. I've heard Roeder has his eye on Bridge, Baines or that kid from Southampton.

Think Man Utd are getting Bale at the end of the season, but they have to loan him back to Soton for 1 season as part of the deal.
David Kelly 1278
Yeah I suspect that will be the case I just know Roeder was interested in him.

I agree completely, we haven't had a genuinely good left-back in years.
