McFaul 35
Went to the Harbour Lights in South Shields for Sunday dinner. Honestly I can't stop telling people how amazing this place actually is, every time I have went the food has been absolutely superb, plus it also has a great selection of music on every time you are in. Definitely the best pub in Shields (not that there's much competition like). I know I've mentioned it before but the head chef was a finalist on Masterchef a couple of years ago too. http://www.journallive.co.uk/north-east-news/todays-news/2011/10/14/masterchef-finalist-john-calton-takes-head-chef-job-at-south-shields-pub-61634-29593569/ Even though its a mackem pub, the burgers in The Fountain are the best I've ever had, however I'll definitely give this a go though. Right off the beaten track mind.
Monkeys Fist 42129
Dinner tonight- all bar the pig from the garden. Grilled loin chops with Pink Fir Apple spuds ( few drops of Olive oil to serve), and mixed salad of cucumber, radish, lollo blonde and oak leaf, dressed with Dijon mustard, tarragon and crushed garlic dressing. das ist die Scheiss! ChezGiven 0
Have you got an actual oak tree in your garden or did the leaf just blow in from somewhere? "Ooh look what Fist jnr brought in from the garden, that'll go nicely in our pot Mrs Fist" "Errr.... "

trooper 940
Mrs T's prepared baked bean lasagne for tomorrow nights tea very tasty it is and low fat for all you calorie counters. Dice an onion a few fresh tomatoes & mushrooms put in a pan on the hob add a couple of tins of beans 2 tablespoons tomato puree stir together warm through gently get your lasagne sheets layering them between you baked bean mixture top with grated edam (low fat ) pop in the oven for 10 minutes until the cheese melts serve with a salad. We found its best prepared the day before as it tends to go a bit sloppy if you eat it the same day. We're by no means vegetarians but this is a very tasty way to enjoy a meat free lasagne and it's good for you if you try it let me know what you think cheers Trooper

Dr Gloom 21847
i think i've said it before in this thread but by far the best way i have ever managed to prepare baked beans is to reduce the shit out of a tin of heinz on a low heat still they thicken right up and there's barely any sauce left, then whack in a great dollop of butter in till it melts. serve it on sourdough toast with optional handful of grated montgomery cheddar on top, for the most middle class plate of hipster douche beans on toast you'll ever eat. Kevin Carr's Gloves 3859
Best way to cook beans is in the frying pan you just fried your bacon in. Not healthy but nice.
ChezGiven 0
If you open the tin and put the tin itself directly on a gas heat, you can get a beautiful charring on the wrapper up the sides. The heinz green looks exquisite next to the charred black.

Alex 34913
i can't abide undercooked baked beans as it happens I like them like that too, i.e. with the sauce thickened up. It's still beans on toast with cheese though.
Christmas Tree 4711
Aldi beans are far superior to Heinz. Sauce is much thicker to start with and the overall mouth experience is simply crème de la crème.
