khay 10
Newcastle United manager Glenn Roeder says Shay Given is the Premiership's number one keeper and would not swap him for anyone. England's top-flight sees some of the world's best shot-stoppers on show, including the likes of Petr Cech, Jens Lehmann and Paul Robinson. However, Roeder believes The Magpies' keeper is the cream of the crop and is delighted he committed his future to the North East club last summer. "We know who the top keepers are and I respect Cech, Lehmann and Robinson but I wouldn't swap him," said Roeder on Given. "Shay Given, for me, is the best goalkeeper in the Premiership. I'm delighted he signed a five-year contract at the start of the season. "Our aim, for Shay and for everybody, over the next year is to improve the quality of the squad to give this great club a chance to win something." http://home.skysports.com/list.aspx?hlid=4...p;channel=&

Is Buffon better? I avoid watching Serie A so all I can go off is when he should've saved Griffin's shot in 2002. I've seen a bit of Man City's new keeper and he will be up there with anyone, he's absolutely class, Sweden's first choice too. Isegrim 10041
Given is the best shot stopper in the league IMHO. His reflexes are superb. But although his control of the box got better in recent years he is still lacking class in this department. His kicking and distribution in general isn't his best side either. You'll probably be allright this season then as Buffon is currently playing in Serie B Edited January 15, 2007 by Sima
MattM4 0
A couple of his throw outs were shambolic yesterday in the second half, when Spurs were piling on the pressure.
Kid Dynamite 7337
If he played for one of the top 3 hed be worth a fortune tbh and have everyone sniffing around him. Most consistent goalkeeper in the league in the last 5 years easily.
luckyluke 2
I said it in another thread but by his standards Given was just solid yesterday, rather than spectacular. That's how good he is. All this despite only being just over six foot. If he was the same height as Cech (five inches taller) we'd never concede!
Guest stevieintoon
Cech is better tbh. Cech rarely has anything to do, contrast what's in front of Cech to what's in front of Shay. He's dropped some total clangers this season.

In the 6 games he played, he kept 4 clean sheets I don't disagree that he's got less to do though

His shot stopping is awesome and importantly he also gets the ball out of danger and away when he saves as he has strength behind his saves. But to be the no.1 he needs to command his box better, and work on his distribution.
