A twisted video showing the Newcastle player's face superimposed on a monkey's head has been posted on internet site YouTube. The so-called Shola Monkeobi was uploaded by a user claiming to be a Sunderland supporter. One said they had contacted police who today said they would investigate the incident. The 20-second video, has a soundtrack of jungle noises, and words flash on the screen saying: "Oh Shola Ameobi, oh Shola Ameobi, oh Shola Ameobi, hands on your armpits, ooo ooo ooh." The poor quality clip comes with the caption: "The goal machine monkey man from the scummers up the road." It has been on the website since September, but in the last 24-hours football fans have expressed their disgust on the YouTube message board. "You embarrass true Sunderland fans," writes one, and another says: "I'm a Mackem and that's totally out of order, reporting now." However the video's creator, AndySAFC, has responded by saying the fans who dislike the clip are not real Mackems. In a grammatically incorrect response, he says: "I love the pathetic attempts at you sad pathetic lot trying to say your Mackems and you still don't like it! Good attempt you free-scarf waving half-wits" One Newcastle fan said: "In this day and age it is ridiculous this is happening. It is actually disgusting and it is a personal insult to the man himself." Paul Forrest from Sunderland fanzine, A Love Supreme, said: "Of course we are very anti-Newcastle, but there is an invisible line that you just don't cross. Genuine banter between fans is funny." Shola, 25, was born in Nigeria and moved to Newcastle with his family when he was five. The Ameobis moved to England when Shola's father, John, got a place at Newcastle University in 1987 to study for a PhD. The player who was discovered at Walker Central Boys Club has spoken openly about the racist abuse he suffered as a child. "When I first came it was hard because there weren't many black people around," he said in 2004. "But I've been brought up to have a strong will and to not care about what people think. After the initial period, I did start getting to know people and, obviously, I made more friends and they realised there was nothing different between us apart from our colour. "Over the last 15 or 16 years, racism in Newcastle, and in England, has come down massively." Ameobi has been on the receiving end of racist chants when playing for both club and country. He is now actively involved in Show Racism the Red Card, a campaign founded on Tyneside aimed at reducing racism in football. Ged Grebby from the charity, said: "Show Racism the Red Card have a good working relationship with both Sunderland and Newcastle Football clubs and if you look at the make-up of both teams you will see that they have players of different races. I'm sure Dwight Yorke and all the Sunderland players are disgusted at this." Police confirmed a probe was underway. Sunderland fans so witty. Yet soime idiot does this and suddenly there's a probe under way utilizing man hours when it's just been reported that they have to do away with police officers because of the budget.
