Invicta_Toon 0
the point was made on TV tonight that arguably, Celtic and Rangers are bigger jobs than Scotland, considering you are comparing CL with playing Faroe Island / Latvia et al, and basically, Rangers are riding roughshod over their own regulator technically Rangers have broken SFA rules and will be investigated by the SFA, but the investigators are also the wronged party - now I had a thought, is there any justification in UEFA taking jurisdiction and punishing Rangers?, i.e. no CL for a specified period or iirc aren't the national associations equal to UEFA on the FIFA board, i.e. FIFA are the natural arbitors?? To my mind though, this is surely more about Walter Smith being a turncoat than it is about Rangers "tapping up" the Scottish national coach. Surely? If they are guilty of tapping up I think the max fine is a couple of hundred grand. Plus they asked the SFA if they could approach him they said no and Walter Smith resigned which he has every right to do. Rangers could point out they were willing to share Smith but it was the SFA who refused to allow him the dual role. GeordieMessiah I am agreeing with you I just re read this and it sounds a little argumentative. manc-mag 1
Point of interest but which fans in Scotland actually support Scotland? Celtic fans all seem to like Ireland, judging by their flags, Rangers fans carry a load of Union Jack's (not very Scottish in outlook) so is it left to the rest of the footballing fraternity to follow Scotland? If it is then it's a feather in their caps btw as (daft anti-England sentiment to one side) theyre a brilliant set of fans by and large
Fop 1
I didn't think Rangers had broken any rules reguarding the SPL. The only issue there was one of breach of contract for which a monetary settlement will be brokered. Seems strange to me that they didn't let him do the Scotland job and the Rangers job tbh, as I've never really seen the justification for a national team coach being "full time" anyway (unless you're running youth acadamies and have youth developement as part of your role as say Bobby Robson did anyway - but I don't know any that do that these days) and in Scotland it is easier than most to combine the post with running one of thier big teams. One thing I did find amusing is all the vitrol against Ally Mcoist who never had a contract with the Scotland team at all.
Scottish Mag 3
Point of interest but which fans in Scotland actually support Scotland? Me! TBH I know many Old Firm supporters who are big followers of the Tartan Army. One of my best mates up here is actually a bluenose, but would choose the national team over them anyday.. Also enducement to breach contract on Rangers behalf, but again this is the law, I'm not sure if the SFA have a rule to cover it.

Thats what I dont get to be fair little 'yin. Do the Old Firm fans come together to follow Scotland? Put their differences aside and all. And is it just left completely alone as a topic of conversation in the bars? I'd really like to think so as it gives hope that these people aren't the complete bell-ends they sometimes come across as when they're 'getting their God on'. It's one thing that really interests me about divided communities actually...Belfast and Glasgow...okay yeah you've got Catholic and Proddy residential areas but the two communities have to come together for work/recreation in town centres etc. I'm just intrigued as to how this all works. But like I said the Scotland manager would be an even easier job to combine with a Scottish club. It might not have been their ideal scenario, of course, but it must be better than losing the guy that's got them actually do well? Seems a real case of "cut my own nose off to spite my face" to me. (and tbh if the english fans would put up with Sven then they’d put up with Ferguson IF he did well, if he didn’t he’d be crucified, but that’s just modern media football tbh)

I take your point Vic, but the sad reality is Celtic and Rangers have always held more influence than the SFA, particularly Rangers. I find the whole thing astonishing, the equivalent thing in this country would be McClaren walking out on England while doing a fantastic job, to go to Man Utd. Having said all that and this is no disrespect to our Scottish cousins, but I'm sick of the media coverage of it down here to be honest. Every night you put the telly on "Rangers cross swords with SFA" I mean really who gives a fuck? We never see Rangers live games and when we do it really is worse than Championship standard, yet Sky Sports, Talksport, Radio Five, have spoken about little else for a whole week. Thankfully they usually ignore Scottish football.

Just shush! A rare good point Gemmill. There are 5m people in Scotland, while there are 51m in England. Sky Sports/Talksport/BBC etc.. are clearly going over the top with this coverage of Rangers for reasons unbeknown to me. If they were that interested in Scottish football they'd have kept the contract for the SPL, Setanta got it for pennies when you think how much SKY invest in other events, and that all points to the fact they don't give a fuck about Scottish football surely? They don't because 99.9% of the English population don't. Scotland is like a bubble, they seem to think the world notices Celtic/Rangers etc... I'll watch any football, but I can't watch that because it's shite and irrelevant and that's all there is to it. The coverage in the media is ridiculous, they don't go over the top when Lyon or PSV appoint a new manager so why bother with this?
