khay 10
Skysports.com understand Newcastle are in talks with James Milner about a new deal at St James' Park. Milner has been one of Newcastle's major successes this season after returning from a loan spell at Aston Villa last season. The former Leeds man was close to a move to Villa in the summer before Newcastle pulled the plug on the deal. Milner has established himself as a regular under Glenn Roeder this term and he has produced some impressive performances including scoring in the 2-2 draw with Manchester United on New Year's Day. The talented winger has been linked with a move away from Tyneside, but it is believed Newcastle are ready to reward the England international with a contract extension. Skysports.com understand Milner's representatives are locked in talks with Newcastle officials and are hopeful of reaching a successful conclusion soon

Craig 6700
Brilliant news IMO. Consistently one of our best players this season which, knowing what NUFC are like, led me to expect us to flog him off at the first attempt...

sweetleftpeg 0
Aye, I would keep him. Although, I have to be honest, I don't think he's been as good as some fans have made out.

Agreed, and far better on the right than on the left in my opinion.
Jimbo 175
From SKY Sports Newcastle are being tipped to make a move for Shaun Wright-Phillips which could spark some major transfer activity in the North East. The England winger is understood to be surplus to requirements at Chelsea and a host of clubs are considering a swoop. While West Ham are reported to be favourites, Newcastle are also said to be monitoring the situation. Newcastle are already fairly well stocked in midfield - but they could indeed make way for Wright-Phillips with the departure of James Milner. The England Under 21 star has impressed this term, but it remains to be seen whether he will be first choice in the long-term under Glenn Roeder. Aston Villa, where Milner spent the previous season on loan, have admitted that they are unlikely to mount a fresh bid - but neighbours Middlesbrough are believed to be looking to strike a deal. Boro showed an interest in August when Newcastle looked to try and prise Mark Viduka from Teesside. Their interest in the Australian remains, but his current form combined with Boro's perilous league position means they will not be willing to let him leave. Another player said to be on Newcastle's list of targets is Chris Riggott and North East sources claim the two clubs are now in preliminary talks about a deal which could see Boro offer their defender plus some cash to land the young winger. Boro are looking for a midfield spark and Milner could be the man to provide it, although they have also joined the expanding list of clubs taking a close look at Hibernian duo Kevin Thomson and Scott Brown - with assistant Malcolm Crosby watching them at the weekend. TheInspiration 1
Milner's been playing consistently well (so yeah, not outstanding), despite being so poorly treated months ago, and a lot of the fans have been giving him harsh criticism too. Papa Lazaru 0
MIllner has done as much if not more than other players this season, despite being treat like shit and i'm in favour of keeping him as we can scarecely afford to reduce our squad further! However much as i like him his end product is still woefull alot of the time, particularly when under no pressure at all and he really does have to sort this out. But at least there have been some excellent crosses fired in amongst the dross and that is what he has to be aiming for. And like many of our squad he has to be lookign for a few more goals. Gejon 2
Have said this before, Milner had an excellent season last year, probably just as good as N'Zogbia but because it wasn't in a black and white shirt people don't acknowledge it. Its no suprise at all to me he has been a bit in and out so far this season given his age and the shit he has had to put up with. He is certainly one player who deserves a new contract! MrBass 2770
as much as i rate milner, i'd let him go if swp was coming in to replace him You've got to be kidding! Milner has been one of our better players this season, despite being fucked by the club at every opportunity. SWP is highly overrated imo, his attributes are his speed and um.... err.... ? @yourservice 67
Milner's kept his mouth shut about the way he has been treated and got his head down with the football, imagine the uproar if he opened it and wanted out when we are struggling for bodys no matter what fucking quality they are! Jill 0
Milner's kept his mouth shut about the way he has been treated and got his head down with the football Refreshing to see. He's come on in leaps and bounds this season and although I wasn't much of a fan before, he's been fairly consistent and I'd be happy to see him get a new deal. meshman 0
no to SWP tbh - waste of money imo. milner has kept his head down and got on with the job - deserves new contract imo esp after that cracker against the reds
tinofbeans 91
talented player except he lacks pace and his crossings not his best attribute. got a lot of skill and is pretty much fearless. deserves better than the way we've treated him... SWP is even worse at crossing than him... but is really fucking quick like.... if he were to come here (which i doubt) he would be an asset if played week in week out... Ally 0
Thought he was awful in his first spell, and again at the start of this season. But the last few weeks he's been playing like he did at Villa, been excellent.
