It's been a funny old night here at the hospital. A few ponderings..

- Branston Pickle flavour mini-cheddars. Revolting yet strangely addictive when you're starving at 4am

- A teenager now in intensive care with nasty injuries. He nicked a car then crashed it. Justice or tragic?

- An asylum seeker lady over in labour ward who has had the most unbelievably horrible life. She became pregnant following a brutal rape and now the beautiful little person staring at her through the side of the cot with the biggest brown eyes I've ever seen is the only thing she has in the entire world. She's besotted by him and it's heartbreaking.

- Metro radio are playing the Fraggle Rock song. WTF?!

It really has been a strange evening, and being on nights makes me think about things too much.......

If you think about shit like that at the end of every shift you will go home with your head battered!

Or possibly you'll wake up everyday and appreciate what you have in life and what you are putting back into the world.

Maybe if you worked on the set of ER. But in my experiences most nurses appreciate that they have just managed to make it through the shift and get to go home and put their feet up

Wor lass is a nurse and she brings it home with her from time to time. I'm sure she'd rather just forget about it all but it's not that simple. You do get attached to your patients. Different in A & E perhaps.

Suppose. If you work with someone day in day out and they peg it I can understand it having an effect. But i used to strip and bag 3 or 4 bodies a week, and unless they were young kids I can honestly say it had very little effect on me.

The only exceptions being when the familys identified them in the hospital. Wasnt nice seeing inconsolable family members breaking their hearts.

Fucking ER, I've lived with nurses, have friends that are nurses and yes I understand what you are saying but at the same time if you don't think about what you are doing, about all the shite in the world, about its fuck-ups and miracles, what's the point?

But hey at least your heed won't be battered, will it?

Hadaway and shite man . The point is I get to have a laugh with my mates and lass, make as much money at work whilst doing as little as possible and hopefully have kids one day to pass on all my lifes wisdom.

Not to worry about whether a joyrider deserves to die or not.

'Fate is not set, it is what we make it' as sarah connor once said. Unfortunately some shit just happens for no reason.

whats that got to do with not drinking like?

What that's all you abide by from the ideology?

Straight edge is not a religion, it is a philosophy. Some straight edgers feel that having a clear mind is a better way to approach life and/or spirituality. Many are atheist, such as Good Clean Fun, or agnostic, often believing in personal responsibility and rejecting the idea of a deity or any divine moral law.

Karma?

So no drinking and no social responsibility? Bit of an oxymoron that.

Have a word! I do my bit for society by not being a cock end on a weekend, getting pissed, having a fight and getting locked up or ending up in Casualty. I dont take days off work due to being hungover either.

Still didnt make me go home worrying about all the patients I had seen at work that day.

That's what you did before you gave up though.

Those who can't handle their booze (most of the Bigg Market / Quayside seemingly) get right on me tits like. Spoil it for the rest of us.

I can honestly say ive never in my entire life been locked up, taken to hospital or missed a day at work due to being drunk.

Nothing wrong with hungover sickies tbh. Never been locked up or been to hospital, but I defend my right to chuck a sickie.

Having said that, I don't drink on school nights anymore cos the hangovers are too bad.
