I can't even remember the second goal tbh. It took the pressure off the back four a bit in the second half though (i.e. Man Utd scoring so early), still thought they played well though. Solano basically knew exactly what Ronaldo was going to do.

Solano was outstanding

Martins kept them busy, as did Dyer.

Edgar was very solid. Given did his job. Taylor was ok with the usual caveat of daydreaming and dodgy decision making. thought Emre was ok too. Kept them busy. Parker made some very good challenges.

Overall a good performance but not sure about Taylor until he sorts his positional sense and daydreaming out

:icon_lol: Martins was absolutely gash. Dyer wasn't much better. Ditto parker. Taylor was head and shoulders above the 3 of them I reckon.

Are you trying to say Martins, Dyer or Parker had a good match like? If so, I disagree.

All 3 were head and shoulders above Taylor. Martins movement for once was very good. He kept the centre halves occupied. Dyer was outstanding - he tracked back and ran at them when the opportunity arose. The pace of the pair of them ensured that they didnt start to push the line further up. Parker played well and got some very important challenges in. Taylor was OK. Nothing better than that. Centre halves are paid to play football, take responsibility and position themselves to attack the ball when it matters. Not do star jumps and drop a yard behind the line as he did for the second, to use one example. What the fuck he was doing in the first half nonchalently passing the ball from his own penalty area straight to Paul Scholes with very little pressure is anyones guess.

I couldn't agree less. Seriously. Weird how different some people see games. I thought the 3 you mention (who I have time for) were, to varying degrees, awful.

Oh and btw, Martins was definitely to blame for their 1st goal

<_< Funnily Taylor does drop well behind the line yet again obscuring Shay's view for that one. Martins is up front where he should be :icon_lol:

Martins was getting involved in link-up play which, judging by the other night, he can't do. Gave the ball away on numerous occasions. One of which lead to their first goal.

Martins gave the ball away by telegraphing a pass and they scored their first goal directly from the resulting move in a matter of seconds. Hardly tenuous.

To be fair to Martins he was just doing what more than half the squad were doing for most of the game. If it wasn't for Manchester's incompetence and our luck we would have conceded far more due to giving away possession far too easily.

That's also why I am not as excited about the match as others seem to be. There were two Newcastle United sides on the pitch. One that was fully committed throughout the game and fighting for every ball starting with the strikers. The other one was the side that had possession and needlessly surrendered it again and again. The first thing is something you can expect from an underdog, the second something that shouldn't happen to a good football team. Therefore in my eyes it was an average performance ending with a nice (and lucky) result.

Well, I think we just about deserved a point, but I agree about them letting us off the hook with missed opportunities.
